#'s coming up with help from HC food

I stayed home
as Orson's numbers were low for my comfort zone to leave him, as he was dropping too much.

AT strips arrived
Even with those after some HC food he was @ +3.5 96
and usually drops another 2 hours.

Stall without giving food and retest in 15-20 min. That will tell you if the numbers are dropping or rising.

Ok will do! Thank you - will you be watching for me? I am so new to this i am panicking and don’t want him to have a low episode while at work. I ordered an auto feeder but its due to arrive Wednesday.

I will try to help as much as I can, but honestly I have been out of the loop for a little over a year. Looking back over stickies to refresh my memory. Hopefully some other people will see your post as well.

Since your auto feeder hasn’t arrive ... do you have any way of leaving food out? Will Orsen eat it all at once if left out?

So that number is basically the same with meter variance. It seems that if he is going to have an active cycle, his numbers are the same at +2 and drop around +3 which would be about the time you need to leave for work. :nailbiting:

I am sorry-but I don’t know what you mean
I understand the numbers are the same-but not sure what you are saying

162 is about the same number with meter variance. Since you have 2.5 hours to monitor before you go to work, you could shoot and then get a +2 and if that number is lower than the pre shot number it could indicate an active cycle . You could give him some MC to boost him up a bit as a cushion while you are at work.

OK-he isn't wanting to eat much breakfast which is wildly odd for him. I am not comfortable shooting if he doesn’t want to eat.
ACTIVE-CYCLE?
MC?

MC - Medium carb food. It is higher percentage of carbs. I’ll see if I can find the percentage. HC is high carb.

He isn’t wanting to eat AND he eats all the time. I am not comfortable shooting if he doesn’t want to eat.

If he is refusing to eat, I would be nervous about shooting and leaving him also.

I AM TRYING A DIFFERENT FLAVOR AND SPRINKLED SOME DIABETIC DRY ON TOP
HE IS EATING BUT NOT SURE HOW MUCH HE WILL FINISH.
Is shooting a lower dose an option or is it safety to not shoot?

If you can get him to eat, then shoot. If it is late when you shoot then the next shot is 12 hours later, so consider that for your schedule's sake.

Shooting a lower dose is not going to guarantee that he will stay safe because the depot of the higher dose will still be in effect the first 1/2 of the cycle.

Ideally, as time goes on and you get more data when shooting lower PRESHOT numbers (on weekends or days you can monitor), you will feel more comfortable with these decisions.

As far as shooting a lower dose, you do need to find a dose that you are able to give him twice a day. By skipping shots, it will make his depot unstable, which makes it harder to predict what his cycles will look like.

I’m going to tag @Wendy&Neko. She was wonderful in helping me when I was new to the board.

HE ONLY ATE ABOUT A HALF OF CAN OF FF
SO I AM GOING TO PLAY SAFE AND SKIP I THINK???

Thank you. I don’t know why he isn’t wanting to eat. This concerns me more I think.

It is always concerning when we feel something is wrong with our fur babies. Then you add diabetic and a kitty who never refuses food and it takes on a whole new level of worry. But even kitties who never refuse food can be picky for any number of reasons. Sending vines (typo for good vibes - that stuck) for whatever is bother him to pass quickly. The diabetic kitty bond that you will form with your kitty is a strong one ... and while it comes with so much worry and struggles ... I wouldn’t change having that experience for the world. It brought me so much closer to Gizmo and gave us an extraordinary bond.

Yes it is!
He is playful and seems fine-but I think he is sick of canned food. And even though he has a huge appetite (hes a big cat) he can't eat the large amount of canned in 1 sitting.
He takes forever. I could shoot up till about 7/leave for work at 9am. What do you think

Hi @Edye ,

Not sure if it's a good idea or if it's going to add to your worries. I am a HUGE worrier, and so I have installed a camera in the living room that I can monitor from work/wherever I am. It will not tell me if my cat is in hypo, hyper, etc but I can see if he's breathing, if he's confortable, or agitated. That gives me more peace of mind.

I also just bought a microchip feeder, but still needs to train Macka how to use it.

Because Lantus is a longer acting insulin, Orson doesn’t have to eat his whole meal all at once, half a can I think would give him enough food on board for insulin and then he can pick at the rest during the day :) I definitely would be concerned if he wasn’t eating at all though. I’m glad you gave Orson a dose today :) . Based on his numbers this morning I think a reduced dose was a smart move. Great Job Edye :)

It’s so freaky now but you will definitely get more comfortable and confident with time! Look how far you’ve come already :)

Sorry I stepped outside for a bit to weed. Yuck!

If you are comfortable with shooting and can leave food that you are fairly confident that he will eat, I think he would be fine. My vet always said half a dose was fine when kitty wasn’t eating. I felt nervous, but he was fine.

Oh I totally agree with the camera idea. I used one with Gixmo and just purchased Wyze cameras to use for vacations to keep an eye on my critters, they are around $25 and have night vision and 2 way audio. I was very impressed with them, but haven’t gotten a chance to use for an extended vacation yet.

yes, I was going to say, half a can is enough when you're on Lantus, especially if you are leaving food out to be eaten later

when you said he wasn't eating, I was thinking you mean he was refusing completely; as long as there's a bit "on board" and he isn't vomiting or sneaking off to hide, my opinion at long range is that you're okay ... good for you

So affordable! I like the idea of this, there ha been quite a bit of cat puke lately but I’m not sure which cat it is .. Nyx, Mowgli? Both? I think a camera could help me get to the bottom of this :)
They are motion activated and will send you a notification on your phone if you set them up to. You can also record, but I haven’t messed much with those features. I just check in every once in a while to see that everyone is still breathing. Lol. They also seem to constantly update the app with improvements.

Sorry Edye for hijacking your thread about cameras.

I can only see him if he is by the camera-sort of thinking of staying home now-he clearly needs a smaller dose. I gave 1.5 and that seems to be too much.

99 is still a safe number but I understand your concern with such a drop, I will tag a few members that have a little more experience but I'm not sure if they will be on today to have a look. If you decide to go to work maybe try leaving out some MC it might help slow him down.

@Bobbie And Bubba @Sienne and Gabby (GA) if you guys are available would you be able to provide some advice for Edye?

Thank you Amanda

69 is still a safe number. But since it is only +3 in the cycle, I would maybe try some med carb food to slow the drop and keep him surfing in the good numbers.

Also, when you get a new test number, could you post it instead of just updating the title ... especially if needing advice. I only get alerts when a post is made. I just happened to notice the title change.

Spreadsheet shows 96 at +3 on alphatrack meter. Was he 69 on the human meter at +3 or is one of these numbers a typo?

I am new to the message board-just trying to figure it out.
Some say just change your title, so I am confused. But yes I will change the actual content
