To the point: Does anyone feed raw to a cat with probable chicken allergies? Fresh rabbit available, I want the bone in for her teeth. I have a source for fresh rabbit butchered to my specs & lamb is readily available at the grocery store.
Background: Maus seems to have an intolerance or allergy to something in the Dr Pierson raw w/bone recipe. Symptoms include on & off rashes around her eyes, watery eyes & almost daily vomiting water & fur, rarely undigested food. I put her on Ziwi Rabbit & Lamb & she's much, much better; rash gone, eye nearly normal, no vomit except for the rare grass & fur.
More: Maus has eaten nothing but Dr Pierson's raw chicken thighs w/ bone for her entire life. I have a good grinder, follow the recipe to a T & have made adjustments as she has over the years. I now remove 1/3 bones, 50% skin & sear the outside (faster than bake method). I admit that I don't buy organic thighs due to the cost and not always available. I also follow the vitamin list from http://www.catnutrition.org/ since she follows Pierson closely & her site & recipe seem more current.
Need advice:
I'd love to get her back on some sort of raw diet, if even partially.
I need to figure out if it's chicken and/or egg or something else.
I'd prefer to not use a premix supplement as most are for meat without bone
I'd also like to find a more economical chicken free alternative to the Ziwi for long term as backup
