Ragnar - 489 immediately post-shot 2:30 AM

I got one more use out of the old meter by using the instructions from Bayer support - touch the strip only to the drop, not the finger (or in this case, ear). I am glad I won't have to keep using a meter that old and finicky for long, though (got the dreaded E2 - insufficient blood - reading 7 times yesterday, even dipping it in a huge drop, a veritable lake of blood, and certainly touching only the blood with the strip).

The reading was 489 before the new shot would have kicked in, probably his highest of the day. At least he is not going low!! That's high, though, and no doubt we will be increasing the dose - 1 unit will mean doubling it - and I am SO glad I am getting (a) new meter(s) from my friends at FDMB!!!

Blessings!

Shirley and her great big sweetie Love (who is going to have his Cefa Drops now, and he does not like them - poor little guy, there's so much to put up with, but he's a good sport and still loves me, amazingly).

Shirley -- where is Ragnar's SS? I think if you are going to want help with dosing, a SS is really essential. I certainly can't keep all of Ragnar's numbers in my head. I can't keep my own cat's numbers in my head!

We do not bring doses up that quickly. Please refer to the dosing protocol guidelines in the sticky. I would be hugely apprehensive of increasing a dose without a functioning meter.

Hi Shirley,
Are you using neosporin or vaseline on the ear to help bead the blood? Im just wondering, because if I put too much vaseline (or if I use neosporin), no matter how much blood I get it wont pull into the strip.

Im sorry you are having such problems with the contour meter. I use it and love it both for accuracy and ease.

I would echo Sienne's concerns about increasing so much, especially w/o knowing what Ragners numbers are, and it appears with inconsistent shooting possibly? Getting a spread sheet going and putting it in your signature will help others be able to guide you in the best dosing for Ragnar.

Hi Shirley,

Ditto on Sienne and Carolyn's posts...please try to set up a spreadsheet as soon as possible, you can visit the TECH forum for assistance, there's plenty of techies around who can lend a helping hand.

Also, you really want to make sure you have a working meter if you're increasing by this much. You'll want to monitor closely as well.

And again, a spreadsheet will really really help others guide you along.

I'm not giving you dosing feedback but I am really urging you to read through the link below, we're all here to offer support and feedback to help all kitties get thru the sugar dance safely.
Hope you're doing ok and please update when you can, ok?
