Quick help please!

Hello looking for some quick advice. My cat was diagnosed 6 weeks ago and I just started checking his glucose a week ago. I don’t have a spreadsheet yet, but these are his readings for the last week with a relion meter. He is on Vetsulin 2 units now but hoping to get him changed to Prozinc this week. I just check him and he is 189. Should I skip this shot since he is under 200?

As you can see his has a lot of big up and down spikes with the Vetsulin. He gets his shot and feed at 6:30am and 6:30 pm. This is the first time I have had him under 200 before a shot.

You can always stall for 20 min or so and see if numbers are rising. However, given that you've seen a test at 71, I would suggest reducing your cat's dose to 1.75u.

Also, it's really important to get doses during the evening cycle. You're already seeing drops around mid-cycle. It's entirely possible that the numbers are even lower at night. Many cats do experience lower numbers during the PM cycle.

And please, please, please -- try to find time to set up a spreadsheet and your signature. The information is in this post on helping us to help you.
 
Here is a spreadsheet I have from a Facebook group hopefully you can see it.

I can’t really test in the pm. I give him his shot at 6:30pm and usually am sleeping by 9:00pm. Also he is starting to fight me on the ear pricks the more I do it and it is getting a little difficult to do them.

A "before bed" test would be very helpful. It sounds like you could test at around +2.5 or so. If numbers are dropping only a few hours after you give your PM shot, you may want to prop up the numbers with high carb food. The danger of not getting any tests in the evening is that your cat could be dropping quite low and you would not know -- which could be dangerous -- or he may be in dose reduction range and you wouldn't know. In either case, if the numbers bounce high by morning, you're likely to be confused over what's happening since you have no data from the PM cycle.

If you've not been giving your kitty low carb treats after testing, that may help get him acclimated to the process.
 
Orangie was 189 yesterday morning so it was recommended to skip his shot and I lowered his dose from 2u to 1.5u last night.

This morning his reading is 210. Should I skip the morning shot again since he is close to 200 or should I still give him the 1.5u shot? He is also on Vetsulin hoping to get it changed to Prozinc on Wednesday.
