Questions about getting Libre

I have read everything I can find about CGMs. I was wondering.... I saw where you can go online to their site and try it for free. Is that possible to do with a cat? They ask questions about who you are using it for and have to fill out the info like it's a human and if they try to verify with the doctor ,then they would see its a veterinarian.
I sent an email to my vet asking for a prescription. I saw somewhere that it should be PRN prescription. So does that mean I get a paper script? or do they send it to whatever pharmacy I'm going to use? They all mostly send them electronically now.
I also keep seeing I can get a 90 day supply... isn't that 6 sensors? Since they last 2 weeks?
I'm just so confused about how I go about getting it.

Yes they will send you one sensor to try free. Complete the form as though it’s for you only.
Never say it’s for a cat when you communicate with Abbott 🥰
I buy them at my local grocery store pharmacy. Most pharmacies will have them in stock.
The Libre 3 Plus will last 15 days.

Do they not ask for doctor's info to verify? Since it's a script? That's why I was afraid to fill it out. Do they write a script for for one sensor, or is it good to buy as many as needed? I'm sorry, I don't know why it's confusing me so much.

I don’t think they contact your doctor (I did it 3 years ago for my cat (but used my name) so don’t recall for sure what they asked.

When you do buy them at a pharmacy you’ll need a prescription from your vet in the US.

I buy 2 or 4 at a time and always have around 6 or more at home. So I’m ready if one fails. I never want to be without a few in case I screw up an application (it’s happened, operator error in the beginning).

I'm in the US, Oklahoma. I was checking on GoodRX just to see the average price and it looks like around $89/ea.

In my experience, GoodRx doesn't show the accurate lowest price. I get mine at Costco and even their site claims they're more than they actually end up being. At least with Costco, they apply the manufacturer coupons etc and bring them down a ton more than they even say they will. I'm not sure if there are Costcos in Oklahoma but if there are it'd be worth it! You don't even have to have a membership to use their pharmacy, though you definitely get more discounts if you do.

When I got it at Safeway even with GoodRx, yes, it was $90 for one. I pay a third of that at Costco and don't even need a GoodRx coupon.

I actually get 6 at a time and like Staci said, I don't let them get too low in stock so that I always have extras. They can fail in application, or fail partway through, etc. Always good to have backups!

Yes, there one not too far from me. It sounds like it's worth the basic membership.
Does the prescription say how many you can get,? or is it just simply having a script and buy what you need?

Your vet should write the script for something like as needed with (basically as many refills as needed) for a year. You need a new script each year.
Yes if you have Costco, it’s worth the membership cost as Brianna mentioned.
And don’t forget to print out the Abbott coupon for $19.99 each and see if your pharmacy can apply that coupon. It’s a great deal!

I can't remember for sure now since it was so long ago that I had the prescription sent over but I think it was something along the lines of 6 sensors with as needed refills, like Staci said. If you wanted to get fewer at a time I'd imagine you could just call them and ask for partial fills, though I haven't tried that.

I still haven't tried the $19.99 coupon myself because last time I bothered with any additional coupon it was a massive pain and then they couldn't use it anyway, but if you bring that in before they have it ready and tell them you want to use it, it might be less of a pain for you than it would be for me (long story).

Thank you, both so much!!

Is there an alternative to the Brava spray? Monster is very afraid of spraying anything close to her and she would freak out. Do the wipes work to remove it? Im trying to order supplies i will need.

I use organic coconut oil on a cotton swab. It loosens the sensor paper sitting on their skin. Go around the outside of the circle slowly.
You can mix in some baby oil too if needed.
I think I read someone used olive oil 🤷‍♀️

So I have the Libre app on an old iPhone (my daughter is letting me use her old one) and I have the link up app on my phone. I can see the info on both. My question is how do I get the info onto the spreadsheet? I haven't been able to figure that out yet. Or maybe it's because we dont have really any data yet.

I'm pretty sure you just have to enter it manually? Look at the app at the desired time and note down the number. I could be wrong, but that's what I've been doing.

You can pull data from the libreview.com site, but it's not compatible with our spreadsheets.

Oh, ok. I thought I could just transfer it over but maybe I was just thinking that. I don't keep up with all this technology, 😂

It's fair! Our spreadsheets are kind of ... bespoke, though, so even if there were a way to transfer it to something similar, I don't think it would be compatible with the settings we use. (The spreadsheets I can generate from the website are long lists of raw data. If you're looking for a specific date/time you can find it, but it's hard to follow in any overall sort of way.)

Exactly correct 🥰
Yep, it's manual. Even if you can't get to it at the time, the LinkUp app lets you scroll back 12 hours, so you can look later. That's now I add all the overnight numbers. 🙂
