Hey y'all ! How are ya? Has anyone received a sample of Purely Fancy Feast ? I'm wondering about the carbs. It's wild Alaskan salmon and white meat chicken in broth. I'll contact Purina if no one knows about the carbs. It has 13.5 % Crude protein. 1.5 % crude fat. .5 crude fiber. 82% moisture. Pet smart sells them for $1.10 each! Not sure I wanna get Fred addicted to it, if it is low carb. But I like that it's no meat by products. And the cat on the container looks like Fred :-) !

I received this email from Purina. I don't understand 0 carbs for the seabass and shrimp but it appears as though we have a good low carb meal for our sugar kitties. I am checking into phosphorous content.

All the "Purely" Fancy Feast line are diabetic safe. They are the same as the former "Appetizers", but reformulated so that they can be fed as a complete meal instead of just as a supplementary treat. I still give them to both my cats as treats, they love them.

Did anyone ever get phosphorous info on these?

I'm not sure what the phosphorus count would be--but he non-seafood ones (chicken and chicken and beef) would be low phosphorus, since there's nothing that would contribute to ash content. It's possible some of the seafood ones would also be ok, but can't tell for sure without the as-fed values (which I tried a while back and failed to obtain from Purina).

However, if you're only feeding as a treat, the phosphorus count isn't really going to matter because it won't be a significant part of the diet enough to affect over phos counts in the diet. And if you're looking to feed full time as meals, it would be very pricy and you're better off getting a similar style canned food like Weruva which would be less expensive to feed than these and does have phosphorus counts available for their foods.

The problem, with Hobbs anyway, is getting him to eat. He'll like a food fine and then after a few months decide he doesn't. He was never like this before CKD, he would eat whatever I gave him. He had Weruva, but stopped eating it, and the guar gum in it was making his constipation worse. So I'm trying to find something that he'll eat that's still low in carbs and low in phosphorous and I'm wondering at what point do I give up on those and settle for what he'll eat.

OK. Purina sent me the results in the mail. I've got 4 pages of info! Not going to input it all so here's the jest of it:
PURELY FF Tuna - Carb 0 Pho 0.21
White Meat Chicken - Carb 0 Pho 0.20
Chicken & Tuna - Carb 0 Pho 0.20
Chicken & Beef - Carb 0 Pho 0.23
Flaked - Skipjack Tuna - Carb 0.04 Pho 0.21
Seabass & Shrimp - Carb 0 Pho 0.22
Wild Alaskan Salmon & Chicken - Carb 0 Pho 0.20

Also got info on the Classics line. Not typing all that! BUT it ranges from Carb 0 on Salmon to Carb 1.2 on the Salmon & Shrimp feast. When I get back to my scanner I'll see if I can scan the docs in and post them. I did notice that Purina did NOT specify whether this is AS FED values or DME %. I had ASKED for DME.

Hi... any chance of getting a copy of the info you received... sure would be helpful and greatly appreciated! Thanks- John and Derek

OK. Here's the four pages of info that Purina sent to me. I've been trying to get the same info on the Petsmart brand of these treats as they're cheaper....BUT they don't have the added vitamins. They're treats only. called GRREAT CHOICE - PURRRELY DIVINE. These showed up just when FF added vitamins to their treats, thus making them a meal...also the price jumped on the FF. I'd be willing to bet that's who is making the Petsmart brand. I have called several times and their customer service knows nothing and does nothing to find out. I've also sent emails....no response. Guess they don't care about losing business!!
If anyone finds out about the carbs in the Petsmart brand of treat, please post it!

I would write them back and ask which it is. The answer is important for translating these results to the form we all are used to.

I and my old tomcat Waylon are newbies here. Waylon is not diabetic although I am, but he was recently diagnosed with CKD, and there were a few days of complete disaster when the vet tried to switch him to Science Diet kidney care. After that fiasco, he wouldn't even go back to the old foods he had always eaten voraciously. So the search began for anything he'll eat - baby food, people food, anything. Today I stumbled over Purely Fancy Feast and he's already snarfed two tubs of it. All I'm considering now is that it's low-phosphorus - the business about low-protein is way too far out for us, because he needs protein to heal up a little as well as maintain muscle mass - he's lost a lot of weight already - and I'm way past worrying about prices.

Any info you can give me about the phosphorus percentages will help . . . I'm looking for foods that are under about 70.

These charts are a godsend for me! Thank you, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!

It sounds really good, but with the tiny cans, the cost per oz is more then the DM I buy from the vet. I will buy a few cans to keep on the shelf for snacks or if one of our kitties goes off their food,
