I wanted to switch from the One Touch Ultra Mini meter to the Walgreen's True Result because the test strips are less expensive . (The True Result meter was free and I had been keeping it for back up but hadn't used it yet.)
On April 29 I tested Gracie with both meters at the same time and got 296 on the One Touch and 176 on the True Result. The difference concerned me and I ended up buying another True Result meter today because the testing solution that came with the free meter had already expired and the store doesn't sell it separately. The free True Result meter was 45 with the testing solution, and the new meter was 49. Maybe this was a mistake, but then I tried using the same solution in the One Touch and got a reading of code "Hi" which the booklet describes as over 600!
Tonight before her evening shot she tested at 291 on the One Touch and 164 on the True Result.
I've been searching on the internet to see if people have had very high/inaccurate results with the One Touch and found quite a few reports of this happening to other (human) diabetics.
I was wondering if anyone here has had problems with either the One Touch Ultra Mini or Walgreen's True Result? I plan to take Gracie and her two different meters to the vet so that we can compare the results with the meter (specifically for animals) that they use in the office.
(Please don't check the spreadsheet because it isn't up to date. I've been keeping a notebook with Gracie's numbers, and I haven't been doing tight regulation.)
Update on May 3: Gracie went to the vet this afternoon and here are the blood glucose readings taken with 3 meters at the same time:
*vet's AlphaTrak: 286
*One Touch Ultra Mini: 289
*Walgreen's True Result: 150
Our vet also took a blood sample to send to the lab and the results should be back tomorrow.
Thank you for your help!
