I've never seen anything like this...

Annie is an indoor/outdoor girl...and 'knocks' on the screen door when she wants in.

So tonight, when I heard the knock on the door, I opened it, turned to say something to Binks-
and turned back to see a big ol' Maine Coon stroll in!
He walked through the living room into the dining area, checked out the kitchen...
then calmly & quietly made his way to the spare bedroom and hopped up on the bed.

I greeted him and asked him who he was... he gave me two quiet polite meows, and curled up on one of my shirts to go to sleep. :?

And that's where he still is!

I'm very familiar with the neighborhood cats- have NEVER seen this handsome devil before.
From the look of him, he's been living rough for awhile-
and since it's late here...I put food, water & a litterbox in there and closed the door.
(He immediately went to the food dish.)

What's REALLY odd about this is that not ONE of my three is showing any interest in him at all :? :? .
Other than quietly watching him walk past- they're totally un-fazed by his presence...
It's almost like he's not even in there, or like he belongs here.
Annie invariably challenges any animal that comes in her yard, but not this guy.

I've looked in on him a couple of times, and he gives a quiet little meow, lazily waves his tail, and settles back in.
(he has a very small voice for as big a fellow as he is).

So far, one of the strangest kitty encounters i've had...

Re: WHO PUT OUT THE "VACANCY" SIGN HERE??

I'm fairly certain that he is saying "Hello family, good to be home!" ;-)

Re: WHO PUT OUT THE "VACANCY" SIGN HERE??

It sounds like you have a new member of your family, celi. He thinks so and your other cats think so, so it must be so, right?

Re: WHO PUT OUT THE "VACANCY" SIGN HERE??

Seems like he's destined to be there with you! He must be the powerful big brother figure or maybe he has always been somewhere in & out of your home without you noticing & the rest of the cats dare not utter a word?! What a nice surprise!

Re: WHO PUT OUT THE "VACANCY" SIGN HERE??

What a bizarre story! And it's amazing that your cats are just ignoring Mr. M.C. Intruder's presence.

Obviously, he thinks he is meant to be there. Can't wait to read more about this guy!

Suze

Re: WHO PUT OUT THE "VACANCY" SIGN HERE??

Celi, amazing! Is Kitty still there? There's not a punch line coming, is there? :-D I hope not, as it sounds like you have a new baby.

Re: WHO PUT OUT THE "VACANCY" SIGN HERE??

That's really neat Celi. Almost spooky.

Re: WHO PUT OUT THE "VACANCY" SIGN HERE??

Very interesting for sure! It sounds like this little (?) guy is "home". Yes, pics please! Anxiously awaiting an update!

Re: WHO PUT OUT THE "VACANCY" SIGN HERE??

Great story Celi! I'm curious to see if your visitor is still maxin' and relaxin' this morning or if he just took a pit stop before the next leg of his journey.
I had a kitty do that to us one time. I'm not sure how he got in but he ended up on the third floor of our apt building and when I opened the door he just strolled in and sat on the couch! Ella was not impressed but he was a muscular tabby and she knew she would lose that fight. Turns out he had a microchip and his owners lived about 5km away. We were happy to see him go as he had too much bravado for our liking. Your dude sounds pretty relaxed though.

Keep us posted!

Re: WHO PUT OUT THE "VACANCY" SIGN HERE??

What a crazy story! Sounds like he is definitely "King" in your neck of the woods and Binks and the girls know it. Are you sure he is definitely not a ghost kitty? Regardless of where he came from, it is nice to know he has found a unbelievably, good home :-D :-D

Re: WHO PUT OUT THE "VACANCY" SIGN HERE??

Wow! It sounds like he has found his home indeed!

Ella & Rusty (who approves of a Maine Coon and who also has a soprano voice)

I'll be checking back later. Gotta go now.

Re: WHO PUT OUT THE "VACANCY" SIGN HERE??

Maybe he's channeling Homie.

BTW, Maine Coons do not have a big "meow." For big cats, they have tiny voices -- it's the same with Gizmo who's a Norwegian Forest Cat. They are gentle souls. Maybe the girls recognize that or they figure he'll be their protector (not that torties need to be protected but it never hurts to have a big brother).

Re: WHO PUT OUT THE "VACANCY" SIGN HERE??

Spooky, but not in a scary way

Are you sure he is definitely not a ghost kitty?

I thought to myself last night- "If I open that door, and there's no cat...I' just gonna wet my pants!"

I'm heading to work- but got everyone situated this morning, opened the door, and the visitor got off the bed,
then sat in the bathroom door and watched me for a few, then asked to go outside.
He's still sitting quietly out on the patio.

If he's here tonight, I'll grab some pics :-D

And he may be channeling Homie GA, Sienne.
He's more than twice the size, but he's jet black!!
Gorgeous guy!
And another oddity- he's got some kind of influence, because for the first time in a very long time...
we all slept completely through the night :-D

HAPPY MONDAY ALL!!

We'll update tonight when I get home.

Re: WHO PUT OUT THE "VACANCY" SIGN HERE??

must be something about the Maine Coon types. At my last house, it was all I could do to keep my neighbor's cat from moving in to my house! She basically lived on my front porch and tried to door-dash in at every opportunity.

Sienne is right, they do have tiny voices (my Sammy is 16 pounds and sounds like a kitten). They also tend to be very laid back with other cats. And people - Sammy loves everybody and everything. Be careful, though. Be sure to re-read Atlas' story and if you let him in, keep him separated from the other cats until you can get him checked out by a vet.

Re: WHO PUT OUT THE "VACANCY" SIGN HERE??

I thought it was once you fed him, you have to keep him. Or, at least, he won't leave.

Re: WHO PUT OUT THE "VACANCY" SIGN HERE??

This story reminds me of a jet black maine coon that used to occasionally show up at the shelter I volunteered/worked part time at. He would show up at random businesses (vet's office, Tim Hortons) and make himself at home and they would call us. His name was Gulliver and he was quite the traveller. We finally convinced the owner to put a collar with his name/number on it. We knew where he lived and he had quite a large territory he would wander. Check for tattoo/microchip/lost cat street signs/Craigslist if he is still there tonight.

Re: WHO PUT OUT THE "VACANCY" SIGN HERE??

Sonia I wish I could hit Like on your post LOL

I love the story about Gulliver - name sure suits him.

Re: WHO PUT OUT THE "VACANCY" SIGN HERE??

CELI WHERE ARE YOU??? WE WANNA KNOW!

Re: OUR VISITOR SEEMS TO HAVE A SPECIAL PURPOSE :)

Now the subject line has been changed, but no update yet...the suspense is KILLING me, and I really need to go to sleep!!! I can't wait to wake up to see what's new here!!

Natalia - I need one of those here, with my herd! I'll have to get DH working on building that this weekend....

Re: OUR VISITOR SEEMS TO HAVE A SPECIAL PURPOSE :)

Well, this has gone from odd to what I think is simply amazing.

I got home tonight, and Mr. "Hello, My Name Is...?" ran down the driveway to meet my car.
But, he didn't want to come inside- which, as I'm having concerns much like Libby voiced above about his not having been vetted, was OK with me.

Then, after feeding four furries, I walked out to head over to Mom's house to check on her.
She's been confined to her bed for 4 days with some sort of severe pain in her hip area, (possibly sciatica- not sure yet.)
The Visitor accompanied me all the way to her house, and walked indoors beside me.

He followed me down to her room, and promptly jumped up onto her bed and lay down beside her.
I said to him, "Hey, buddy- you shouldn't be up there."
Mom asked "Who's this?"- I told her the story...and started over to pick him up.
She stopped me, saying "Oh, he's okay where he at", reached over and stroked his head, and drifted back off to sleep. :-D

So, that's where he is tonight. I took down food, dishes, LB, and the shirt he slept on.
I'll check the ads and shelters, and put out an ad about him- because it would be wrong NOT to check for an owner-
but I gotta tell ya...I REALLY hope we don't get a response!!

Granted, June is on painkillers at the moment, but I don't think she's going to change her mind-
when I went back with his supplies, she was snoozing peacefully and he was curled up against her back. :-D :-D

So...June goes to the doctor tomorrow-
and my cousin is off work all week & says she'll take the kitty to the vet for us Wed or Thurs
to check for a microchip and get a full exam.

SUH-WEEEEEEEEEET!!!!!!!

Maybe he was guided here by that ever faithful dog angel Nigel Nip Simmons to further open up my Mom's heart to furry love.

Didn't take the camera down there with me, but I'll definitely get some pics tomorrow!
And this is one time I really hope we DON"T find an owner :-D :-D :-D

ETA: for those of you who are not familiar with my mom- she is a 'recent convert' to the beauty of furry love
due to a very special dog she was first "saddled with" and finally "blessed to have loved" :-D :-D :-D

Re: OUR VISITOR SEEMS TO HAVE A SPECIAL PURPOSE :)

I almost asked yesterday if your mom would be interested in a cat... I sure hope it works out. :-D :-D :-D

Re: OUR VISITOR SEEMS TO HAVE A SPECIAL PURPOSE :)

What a great story and we do hope for a happy ending with the Unamommer having a new best friend.

Only in Binksville!

Re: OUR VISITOR SEEMS TO HAVE A SPECIAL PURPOSE :)

This is so sweet! Hope Mr X will give your mom the furry confort.
As for the cat hotel, my fried used all the cat carrier she had & mounted them to the wall & serve as the bedding for her cats. Very cute! Like pigeon holes!

Re: OUR VISITOR SEEMS TO HAVE A SPECIAL PURPOSE :)

Celi, that just made my day! What a great story! He sounds so beautiful too! I sure hope your mom gets to keep him. He'll make her feel so much better and bring her so much joy. He sounds like such a cool cat. :-D

I can't wait to hear what happens next!

Re: OUR VISITOR SEEMS TO HAVE A SPECIAL PURPOSE :)

That is an unbelievable story, and so sweet, I would fall in love instantly, of course, I do that with any kitty. But, I had a maine coon and I loved her so much, she passed a few years ago, she was brown, black and white. I always feel her around me.

Can't wait to hear more, and I hope you get to keep him.

Re: OUR VISITOR SEEMS TO HAVE A SPECIAL PURPOSE :)

Celi, amazing story and also kitty with your Mom. Seems kitty senses June needs him. Is it a boy or girl kitty? Can't wait to see a pic.

Re: OUR VISITOR SEEMS TO HAVE A SPECIAL PURPOSE :)

Celi, this ongoing story is mesmerizing. I can't wait for more. Hoping for a new love for your mom. :-D

Re: OUR VISITOR SEEMS TO HAVE A SPECIAL PURPOSE :)

I am just finally getting caught up on all this. Wow! What a great great story. I would love to see the pics. Tarragon is a black maine coon with a very soprano voice as well, which is pretty common with that breed. There is a reason that the kitty is there and that no one pays him any mind. I think you have a new family member. What a great feel good story. Thank you!! Now pics please. :-D

Re: OUR VISITOR SEEMS TO HAVE A SPECIAL PURPOSE :)

wow, what an amazing story for sure! I'm betting he's found his new furever home .. homes? :-D

Re: OUR VISITOR SEEMS TO HAVE A SPECIAL PURPOSE :)

Yep I agree...he has a very special purpose and the neat thing is he KNOWS it! AND is showing YOU he knows it....oh such a bootiful blessing.

This just makes me cry 'blessing' tears!

Re: OUR VISITOR SEEMS TO HAVE A SPECIAL PURPOSE :)

I can't wait for more of the story. This is like a bedtime story, read one chapter at a time :-D

Pics please! I bet he doesn't show up on film  doo de doo do do do :o An Alfred Hitchcock mystery story.

Oh, I hope he has found his home with you :YMHUG:

Re: OUR VISITOR SEEMS TO HAVE A SPECIAL PURPOSE :)

Very cool! Sounds like you have a new family member.

Re: OUR VISITOR SEEMS TO HAVE A SPECIAL PURPOSE :)

Too special, it will be awesome if he can complete the unnamommer's transformation!
