I am using the Precision Xtra meter for ketones. Harley bg is 325 with ketones at 0.1. That indicates no ketones right? He has thrown up twice so now I am worried.

A blood ketone level of 0.1mmol is negligible, so nothing to worry about. You need to start really paying attention to things when it gets around or above 1.5mmol and head to the ER if you see anything near a 3.

My Chester has been feeling rotten all day. Threw up breakfast, threw up dinner. Checked the ketones with a Ketostix because I just happened to catch it and got a DEFINITE trace reading...so much so that I felt my heart begin to race and I was immediately on the phone with my vet. She said to calm down (as usual!) and that ketostix have been known to give false positives. I was still unnerved because of his higher numbers today and the vomiting. I got out my Precision Xtra and was reassured to see a 0.2 which is acceptable (Chester has been .8 before without it showing up on the Ketostix).

Gave him Pepcid, metacloprimide, 75 ml of fluid, tramodol (which I had forgotten to give him this morning) and he seems to be feeling better.

I really rely on the peace of mind that the absurdly expensive little Precision Xtra test strips give me.
