My beloved Poncho died during the night (this am). I held him all day and he slept next to me and passed away. The mobile vet was scheduled to be here today to put him to sleep but Poncho went his way. I had a second vet (referred to me as very experienced with diabetes) opinion Thursday and it seems he was never diabetic, but probably was suffering from lymphoma of the GI tract as well as pancreatitis (early on), kidney infection and extreme anemia, which did him in. The initial diagnosis was diabetes, based on a BG of 359, and pancreatitis, but they couldn't do a curve twice without sending him too low, so they threw in the towel and of course I pursued the diabetes with the next vet, who treated him for 1 1/2 months. I will truly miss him. He was such a laid back and very sweet, gentle cat. Poncho and I want to thank you good folks on this forum for all your help with guidance and encouragement as well as your donated time. I've learned a lot! God Bless you all! God Bless you Poncho....I'll see you again someday.

Oh Christopher, I am so sorry to hear about your sweet Poncho. You tried so hard to figure out what would help him. I hope you can remember that you gave him a wonderful life, filled with great food, treats, scratches and pats. There are so many cats who never get to have such peace and love in their lives.

I'm so sorry to hear of Ponch's passing. I hope you can find some comfort in knowing that you did everything you could to help him. :rb_icon:cat_wings>o

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss of Poncho. It's always so difficult when you don't have all the answers about what's medically going on with your cat so you can correctly treat what's really happening. You did an excellent job trying to get answers about what was going on and you took wonderful care of Poncho. Passing at home, by the person he loved, was probably the best way to go, though it's very sad that he had to go so soon. I'll be thinking about the two of you.

Oh Chris I am so very sorry to hear about poncho. You could have tried any harder or loved him any more than you did.

Fly free poncho and land softly. cat_wings>o

So sad to learn about Poncho.

"Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together.... Author unknown..."

Rest in peace, precious angel Poncho.

Thank you all for your kind words, prayers and hugs as I'm indeed comforted by them. I'm sure Poncho felt/feels your Love as much as his immediate friends and family, and he thanks you also.

So sorry to hear that Poncho has passed on Christoph. You and he both fought your hardest for him - you pulled him through times when a lot of cats wouldn't have made it, but it sounds as though his problems were just too many and too complicated in the end. You did everything you possibly could and more to get him through crisis after crisis. And he was able to be with you, in your arms, at the end knowing how much he was loved. There aren't any words that can take away the pain you're feeling right now, but you're in my thoughts and Poncho is out of pain, healthy and young again waiting for you at Rainbow Bridge. You'll see him again when the time is right. :bighug: :bighug: cat_wings>o

He was so blessed to have you for his human bean. Hugs to you, my friend. May all those great memories give you peace.
