Are you allowed to bring anything like an ice pack? It can't be right next to the insulin because you don't want to accidentally freeze it, but if you got like an insulated lunch bag and had a small ice pack, then a little towel, and then the insulin, it might help keep it cool longer. I'm not sure if FAA rules will allow it for a cat, but humans can bring small coolers for medical supplies, so maybe?

Can't wait to hear about your California adventures!

Numbers have been pretty good the last couple days. AMPS was 284 today though (took multiple samples) but had to BS because he wouldn't eat his food! However, neither would Brat. A couple days ago I bought the PetSmart version of rescue remedy and added it to the water. I decided to add it to their food yesterday since I put water in it anyway, and boy did it work! We cleaned and emptied the apt all day and they just hung out with us, purring and dopey eyed. I put it in the food again this am and they wouldn't eat it. So I switched it out for 'normal' food and it took nearly an hour for then both to eat. Anywho, just did a +5 and he's at 96. So maybe it's good we NS! The only reason I'm not concerned (but also slightly concerned) is because his brother wouldn't eat it also. I tried it myself and it's a little bitter, so maybe they just don't like it very much? I shipped their bowls out also, so they're eating from Tupperware. Who knows! I figure they obviously know something strange is happening so even though they didn't eat right away, I'm not totally surprised. They've both eat as the day went on and he's had the YA Zero with testing. Just an update before the big day tomorrow!
Oh, I'm also going to let them settle in tomorrow night and if possible, test him, but not worry about test/dosing until Thursday morning. And if he's super high I may wait a couple days (get midday tests) until I dose, to see if he needs to adjust. Just my thought since it'll be a very drastic move!

My goodness - so much to do! I'm glad the Rescue Remedy type stuff worked. Moving is such a stressful undertaking especially with pets in tow. o_O

137 PMPS. Really debated giving the .1 but did give it. May not get a test before bed but will before AMPS/before the gym. So we shall see.

So tomorrow is the move?!?! Safe travels to you and Pita and Brat (and the BF?)! Let us know when you are safe and settled. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Ohhh good luck with the move! We'll be dying to hear how it all goes and to see pictures!

Hello from sunny CA! Will post more info about the move but wanted to update SS. I gave him .1 units yesterday morning, NS at night before we were in the air, and NS this am because I wanted to give him a little time to adjust still without risking a super skewed number. Just did PMPS- a beautiful 84! He's actually been very purry today also so I'm hoping for the best! I'll post more about the move asap. :)

Hooray! Glad you all made it safe and sound! I want to hear how it was traveling with two cats on an airplane...but of course take time to rest and settle in first!

Sounds like Pita is settling in well! Looking forward to hearing more about it when you've had a chance to get some rest. :)

Hello everyone! I am SO sorry for not writing sooner. It's felt like I'm on vacation and haven't really been on my phone/near a computer lately. Hope everything is going well for you all!
The trip could not have gone better. Brat threw up in the car on the way to the airport so upon arrival we went to a family bathroom and cleaned him up. Was pretty easy. Security was a breeze! No one asked for any vet papers or proof of diabetes. The boys were great going through the scanner with us and they even walked around a little on the leashes! Everyone who saw then thought they were so good and cute. The issue we had was getting them back into the carriers! A security woman finally asked if we needed a private room so that worked well after. The plane ride itself was good also. Brat slept a lot and Pita slept/hung out. We covered them with a blanket from home because I remembered that it (I) can get really cold so I think that helped as well. Once we got to the apartment I realized Pita had urinated in his carrier but I honestly had no idea when because it never smelled. So I cleaned him up and that was it! They seem to have settled really well so far. They sleep on the floor, get a breeze all day long from the window and have all the sunlight. I actually brought Pita outside a couple days ago in the harness and leash and he was adorable. I think we're gonna bring them both out today, so if they're okay with it I think it's great to bring them outside sometimes!
Numbers wise I'm pleasantly surprised and happy with where he's been. I haven't been shooting most of the time and he's reaching some lower numbers all on his own. I decided to shoot this am on a number I NS a couple days ago (144), just to see if I can get his PMPS down a bit tonight. I tested at +4 and he was at 52. Gave him a Tbsp of gravy food and I'll be testing again in about 15 minutes. Please let me know thoughts if you look at the SS! We arrived on 9/14. All in all we are all doing great! My car arrives today with some other stuff in it so I'm sure they won't like all the noise and unpacking but that's okay :)

It's so good the hear that the travels went well! I didn't realize they have to be uncrated to go through security. It must make them so happy to get to outside in the California sunshine! Are you in So Cal?

As far as the spreadsheet, I think you could try shooting lower and see if he starts to flatten out again, but I also think what you're doing is fine. You're giving him some insulin support when he gets higher, and letting him do his own thing when he's in reasonable numbers. Pita usually manages to bring himself down during the mid-cycle, so most of the time he's in healthy numbers. If you wanted to try and see if some regular shots would flatten him out a bit, you would have to be around to monitor since he could also end up going too low. That may be more time stuck in the house than will work for your schedule these days.

Did Brat get to go outside yesterday? Did he like it?

Hi Caitlin! I'm glad the big move went well. Sounds like the kitties were champions in spite of the little carrier mess. They'll be laid back SoCal kitties in no time. :D

So glad the trip went well! I can't imagine how my kitties would take that...but it sounds like things went as smoothly as they possibly could!

I'm a bit boggled! AMPS numbers have been slightly higher than regulated numbers (140-150's) so I've been shooting .1 and testing later. He's doing great and then PMPS is usually low so I have to NS. I know a lot of cats tend to go higher overnight for whatever reason but I'm trying to figure out how to finagle a lower AMPS. (Ha, yes I know, good luck/silly me). I was thinking of maybe NS tomorrow's AMPS and seeing how low he gets on his own, then shooting if it's a higher PMPS. Somehow in my mind that might even itself out again and I can get lower PS both times. I know there's no actual answer, just want to see what others think!? :)

FWIT mine used to have AMPS that were 150-190 and I would NS. His PMPS were usually lower by 40-90 pts for whatever reason. Sometimes it is what it is... and no matter how hard you try to find "that" dose it might not ever happen. Kitty is in control :) There's also the Dawn phenomenon - common among human diabetics but I'm not sure how true it is for cats. But it basically says AM numbers are a little higher than evening even in well regulated diabetics.

You might try getting some more PM numbers and see what they show. The ones that you have seem to hint that despite the lower PMPS numbers, he may be running high during the PM cycle. If that's true, then you might need to shoot some lower PS numbers in order to keep the cycle lower. I'd want a bit more data before you try it though just in case the numbers you have during that cycle were just unlucky.

I like Djamila's suggestion! I think a test or two when you can in the evening cycle might help you pinpoint what's going on. Most likely, you are going to need to shoot a lower number, but it doesn't hurt to see what's going on first. :)

Hi everyone! I'm so sorry that I've been more mia lately. No reason, just haven't really been on! Pita is doing well and ::anti-jinx:: we're slowly starting to count the NS days again. He and Brat seem to be doing very well in their new home and I love it as well :) Hope everyone is also doing well!

Ps- trying to now train my boyfriend to test!

Hello all! I feel so badly about not posting very often anymore. I apologize to come and go only when I need help. I'll post on the computer later when it's easier to type, but I just wanted to check in and say hello! I'm doing a curve today and will probably make a new post about all the thoughts swirling in my head. I really hope all sugar babies and parents alike are happy, healthy and enjoying whatever type of fall weather you're getting :joyful:

Hey Caitlin! We're always glad to see you, whenever you have time to post! Besides, part of what we're here for is to help out when needed. :) Looking forward to seeing your curve!

Hi Caitlin! That's funny, I was just peeking at Pita's spreadsheet this morning. That's crazy that he has a prozinc curve without having any insulin. Hope you are well!
