Out of remission?

I noticed my Coco had a pee accident while I was at work today. She's been in remission for several months (last dose of lantus was April 3rd). so I tested her as this was very out of character. Her bg was 17.6 (human meter) after eating her Fancy Feast, and I checked her again 1.5 hours later and she was 16. So it looks like I'll need to call the vet for a new bottle of lantus tomorrow.
I guess I start her on a low dose like .5 to start and adjust the number based on her bg?
Has anyone had success getting kitty back into remission?
Thanks!

First of all, you don't need a prescription from the vet for Lantus in Canada. You can get it OTC. But it is a good idea to set up a vet visit for blood work and a check up, especially get the vet to have a look at her teeth. Bad teeth is a very common reason for cats falling out of remission.

I'd also keep checking her numbers periodically until you get that vet visit. Maybe she got into something high carb that is a temporary bump in numbers?

And yes, we've had people get their cats back into remission, though it may not be as easy as the first time. If there is an underlying issue, such as needing a dental, fixing that will greatly help.

Thanks! I always just got the Lantus at the vet, never thought to get it from the pharmacy. Do you know if it's much of a price difference? She had a check-up in Feb and her teeth were quite good then but it will be worth a visit to the vet and also a check for a UTI as someone had suggested on FB.

I don't know what your vet charged, but I'd expect it'd be cheaper and fresher. I have heard of some getting gouged when buying from the vet. Get the box of 5 cartridges for the best deal on price per unit.

What province are you in? The rules for buying Lantus may vary, but it should always be cheaper even if you need to get a prescription from the vet to buy it at a pharmacy.

I'm in Ontario but will look into it tomorrow for sure. The pharmacy would be so much more convenient that's for sure. Thanks!
