Thankyou so much!! Love the Party Video!!! So happy & relieved to have joined the other OTJ kitties, but know we are very lucky too. Still praying for all the other sugar-kitties.

Hi everyone!

Our story started when we (me & my 14 yr old daughter Zoe) adopted Shadow from RSPCA in Melbourne, Australia on Easter Sunday, 17th April 2022. We had been keeping an eye out for a smoochy, lap/therapy-cat after my beautiful 19yr old George passed over the Rainbow Bridge a few weeks earlier due to returning cancer. I struggle with an Auto-Immune disease & cuddling my beloved cat whilst not feeling great is so wonderful & soothing. Zoe also loves having the wonderful company of Shadow.

I noticed he was drinking excessively so took him to my Vet for checkup. He was diagnosed with diabetes. He was judged to be also at least 10 yrs old, not 6 as per RSPCA.

I found the Feline Diabetes Support Group, tried to read up on all the information & tried just using low-carb food first. But he had to start insulin on 13th May 2022. I have followed the advice & protocols of the wonderful Mentors in this group through a very emotional & confusing time of dealing with all this. But-we made it here-Day 14 of OTJ Trial! We can only hope it continues.

Throughout this time Shadow has dealt with adjusting to a new home,getting tested very often & insulin injections. It has brought us close & he purrs at testing time during our little routine. As his BG levels came down he was obviously feeling better as noticed in his increased energy & happiness, & also with his coat becoming beautifully shiny & healthy.

Shadow is very affectionate & a character! At first meeting at RSPCA he just flopped down on my knee & started purring-he had us then! He loves lying on my chest. I love going to sleep cuddling this purring fluffy pom pom! He snores, & also burps after a meal. He loves his dangle toy, ball toy & towers. At nite he does laps over the bed, then under the bed playing with balls with bells in them. He smooches each part of the BG testing kit as I get them ready. Zoe & I share Shadow, & husband loves him too. It was all “meant to be”.

We couldn’t have done this without the support of the amazing people in this Group who are so patient, helpful & generous with their time. Special mentions to Chris & China, Bron & Sheba and Bandit’s Mum. Thankyou too Camille & Cyclone for putting this together. Also love & purrs to Hendrick who is on the OTJ Trial Journey! And finally still thinking of & hoping for success with all the sugar-kitties still on the journey.
