In all seriousness, though, we could not have done this without the help we received from everyone on this board. Max was very sick last fall, and by the time we received this diagnosis, we were at the point that we thought we would have to send Max over the bridge. We didn't expect to even figure out what was wrong with him, let alone that it could be something that was possible to recover from. Even after receiving his diagnosis, we didn't think we could handle his treatment. Life with two very young children is difficult enough...the prospect of dealing with a diabetic cat just seemed impossible.

And then I found this board, and all of the great resources you provide--the greatest of which was encouragement. I'm sure many of you may remember my initial posts. We were concerned about being able to treat this. I even went so far as to post for a new home for Max. It killed me to do that...and I think the day that I did was probably one of the worst days I've had in years. Max has been with me since he was 12 weeks old. I brought him home the first day I started my current job 8.5 years ago--I'd finally moved away from home and had an apartment all to myself, but needed a friend to share it with. He has made it through many big life changes--meeting DH (oh, and Max was soooooo jealous!), bringing Potter (GA) to live with us, getting married and moving into a house, bringing Guinness to live with us, losing Potter, a miscarriage, moving to a new house, bringing Truman to live with us, another miscarriage, and the births of two children. One of my co-workers has two of Max's litter-sisters. He is part of my family in every way, but we just didn't think we could handle his treatment properly. To each and every one of you who encouraged me (and us) to take his treatment on and give him a chance to stay with us, I must say thank you from the bottom of my heart. Because of you, Max is still with us, still giving me lots of snuggles and kisses. And because of all the help you gave with dosing and treatment and dietary changes, he's looking, acting, and feeling better than he has in years. He is my kitten again, playing and making me laugh like he did before all the life changes, when it was just me and Max.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. That's really all I can say. :-D

And the thing to remember, it was all you! You had the courage to trust and listen to us and to attempt managing this yourself. Nobody and I mean nobody wanted to see you give your baby away. I can't even imagine how heart wrenching a decision that was for you to make.

Look at you both now. This is such good news and wonderful to see.

Oh - Maui wants me to ask Max, now that he is OTJ and will be living at the Falls, she has a job opening for a valet/cabana/pool boy - is Max interested?

LOL Hillary...I think Max might be posting for a cabana/pool girl of his own. He's not really the type to provide services to others. He'd rather sit on his throne and wait for others to serve him. :lol: Oh, and he REALLY doesn't like pools, so he'd probably be lounging as far from the water as he could possibly get!

Stu--Max is eagerly awaiting your feast! He says nobody can cook the way you do! :mrgreen:

So wonderful. Yeah, I remember the big stink here when you were concerned about caring for Max's FD.... it's a labor of love and I'm glad you both made it through. What a beautiful shiny boy he is. It's amazing how much better they look and feel when things are under control. Donovan looked like a ratbag when he was first diagnosed :shock:, and now - happy purry shiny Donny.

What a handsome boy! The pictures of him with your adorable daughter show what a nice cat he is. Lots of cats don't "love" children! He's huge too! Very shiny fur.

I keep meaning to save links to threads like yours, for when people come here and don't feel they can do this. Nothing says "you can do this" better than a post like yours. He is a big kitty isn't he? Verra handsome boy he is. CONGRATULATIONS you guys!

Just got home and had to come to Max's party and say Congrats!!!! Great video D (or helpers) I am so happy that you not only found a way to keep your Max, but have gotten him back to a healthier happier Max. He is one beautiful boy.
 
Yeah for Max and Mindy! I am so happy for your whole family. You did a great job Mindy, now you can really enjoy having Max healthy and happy and snuggable.

I'm not at home so I don't have emoticons or anthing pretty to send you.
I do want to say that your post moved me to tears. You not only became so proactive in Max's diabetes and therefore led him to where he is today, but you also became one of the most active and helpful members of this community. That is what I noticed anyway. Maybe you were looking for something... Who knows? But Max and god and we all know what you did for your furbaby and we all love you. And Max told me at the party that he couldn't love you more!

Please come back and visit us... Often!

I just have to say thank you one more time. I appreciate all of you celebrating with us--I'm just so happy we made it!

Max asked me to let you all know that he had a wonderful time at his party last night. He has made so many friends here, and he's just so happy to know all of you! He's enjoyed all of Stu's lovely recipes, and actually keeps asking me when I'm going to start cooking like that for him. :-D I just keep telling him soon, baby, soon...one thing at a time! ;-) Anyway, he'd be here today to thank you all himself, but he had a few too many catniptinis and needs to sleep them off before getting ready to party for Baby tonight. :mrgreen:


And on a side note, my experience with all of you here has inspired me to volunteer my services at my vet's office to help newly diagnosed diabetic kitties learn the ropes. My rocky start may not have been quite so rocky had someone been able to help show me how to do all this. You all did a marvelous job with helping me through that, and I'd like to be able to pass the favor on to someone else. I've also let my vet know about DCIN, in case there are other kitties in my area in need. :-D Maybe some day, when my babies are older, I can help with fostering or adopting a diabetic kitty...but in the meantime, I'll do my best to help others make the transition themselves.
