Thanks Angela, here too. In my fantasy dream world we would be reaching this phase together. Your support has meant the world to me and your positive attitude and humour have kept me afloat in the most trying of times while dealing with FD. I still think Cleo has got it in her and I’m going to be here every day cheering you on, so you haven’t gotten rid of me yet!

Ah Bhooma. You had the incredibly difficult job of talking me off the ledge numerous times early on in our FD journey. You helped keep my anxiety in check with your firm and stoic advice “those are SAFE numbers!” ….thank you! I reference you every time I tell people about the FDMB and try to describe this global community of people coming together to tackle FD!

Herman’s going to have to cook up something truly special to keep up with the other menu items. Perhaps broiled snout of rabbit with spicy snake tapenade. :eek:
 
Celebrating right along with you!!

Even though it was many years ago, I remember well the concern at getting the initial diabetes diagnosis, questioning the best treatment, wondering how the heck am I going to do this, and the lifeline and hope that finding FDMB offered (and the internet was much less evolved back in 2005). FDMB folks were the ones who told me about hometesting and better insulin and food choices, although the vet tech (a close friend) mentioned low-carb food based on a recent continuing education class (I actually searched the internet for options to buy frozen mice, if you can imagine that, before I landed here, lol).

You and Herman have come so far and the journey is an accomplishment in itself, not to mention a testament to your dedication and perseverance on Herman’s behalf. Good job. I so wish all caregivers who confront an FD diagnosis could be aware such possibilities.

Love the video and photos. What a fantastic quality of life! My retired barn cat is at least 22 or 23 years old now and no longer patrols outside, but it is truly a blessing to have the option of fresh air, an arena, and trees/fences to climb and scamper along. I’m thinking if I come back as a kitty, I’d like to live at your house. :)

I'm so very thrilled for you, and also grateful to have landed here while your journey was underway. Herman is one-of-a-kind, and despite the frustrations and setbacks, your love for him shone brightly through your thoughtful (and often hilarious) posts! I'm sure you have many plans for all the free time that will no longer be dedicated to shots and testing, but don't forget to check in here and let us know how he is doing. Herman's fan club will be missing you both!!! :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

My only regret is that I didn’t find this forum sooner. I let 2 months go by trying to trust in veterinarian advice while every fibre of my being told me something wasn’t right. Reading through this forum is what spurred me to switch vets, change insulin and start home testing…I cringe thinking where we’d be right now if I hadn’t found this group…thanks for acknowledging the effort involved. Some friends and family have been supportive and amazed, others just thought I was (and am) crazy! Herman loves the opportunity to go outside with me during the day, when neuropathy got so bad that he had trouble walking it was heartbreaking for both of us. I hated leaving him behind. He’s back to running and playing and jumping like before diabetes. So grateful!

Thanks Karen! I’m fortunate to be on this journey along with others like you. The good the bad the ugly…the laughs and the tears - often all at the same time. Love my FD family. So I’ll be here! I’d like to give back and support new and existing members as much as I can, even if just a shoulder to cry on.
