Here's our story:

My sugarbaby Dexter and his twin sister, Chloe, came into my life when they were just 6 months old. They turned 9 years old in July. They have been with me through the rollercoaster that my life has been and have always been my source of comfort.

Dex was diagnosed with diabetes in December 2020, after I noticed some significant weight loss. We started him on Novolin and had a really difficult time getting him regulated. In May, we moved across the country, which has been an adventure for all 3 of us! (30 hours in a car and a couple of hotel overnights was not my furbabies' favorite experience, but we made it and are adjusted in our new home!)

A couple weeks after our move, I woke up and couldn't find Dex. I found him unconscious under a chair and frantically rushed him to the nearest animal ER. The vet told me that he had a hypoglycemic event, his body was shutting down and the likelihood that he would pull through was very low. I asked them to do whatever they could to save my baby. That night I sat up waiting for updates and expecting a call to tell me that he hadn't pulled through, but it never came. I was told that no news was good news. I was a nervous wreck! The next morning I got a call that Dex had made some progress overnight and they were more hopeful about his chances of recovery. Later that day, I got another call that he had a seizure and they weren't sure how his mental functioning would recover. The next day, I got a call from his vet and he told me he was surprised at Dex's strength. He said, "honestly, he was knocking at death's doorstep, but he's pulling through". I was able to pick him up later that day ❤ He has recovered completely and is back to his energetic, social, loving self.

Due to how dysregulated he was on Novolin, we switched Dex to Lantus. I had struggled with at-home testing before, but knew I had to get it down. I was terrified of another hypo event. After a week of many many pokes and many many frustrated tears, Dex and I finally got the hang of it. He's been such a trooper through all of this!

With the help of the FDMB family, Dex has progressed his way to an OTJ trial! (Something I feared wasn't possible for him because of how dysregulated he had been.) I am so grateful for all of the amazing people in the message board that have helped us. We could not have done it without you! ❤❤

I found your post. You are one lucky lady. Truly fortunate that you got him to the ER vet in time. He is one tough kitty. I am so happy for you. You had a miracle. God bless all of you and may Dex stay at The Falls for a long, healthy lifetime.
