Hi all,
So I was up at 4:30 am and I said "what the heck, let me see what Tigger's BG is. It was 206...good news. I went back to bed and got up an hour later and Tigger had harassed my husband for treats like he does every morning. I mean, he follows you around meowing frantically, getting in the way of you walking, until he gets treats (Temptations). So my husband gave him "a few" like he always does. I didn't think they were that horrible because supposedly, they only have 1 calorie per treat...wrong! After the treats he went up to 308! Come to find out "a few" meant almost a handful between his and his sister's.

I get it because I have seen him in the morning demanding treats...but needless to say, I am buying low carb treats. The most economical ones seem to be Young Again Zero True Carnivore treats. Anyone use them and are they a good choice? I was just going to do freeze dried chicken but this is half the price for an ounce more.

Now I am re-thinking all of his numbers because this is a morning ritual. I think I convinced my husband to stop but it will be good to have a more appropriate treat so he still gets his fix.
Let me know,
Stephanie (and the beggar, Tigger)

My guys won't eat the YA treats. I have four cats and none of them like them. I use Pure Bites or Orijen treats, they are just meat without fillers. A little pricey, though.

Yeah those temptations are bad! I saved mine for a hypo emergency. The Young Again treats are unpopular in my house too. Only 1 out of my 3 cats like them but they love the food. The only treats they will all actually eat is the pure bites freeze dried chicken or turkey. Yeah they are a little pricey but I buy them on Amazon. For some reason the ones branded for cats cost more than the ones for dogs but the only difference is the size in treats. So I buy I the big bag for dogs and just break them into smaller pieces, seems to work well.

Thanks :) The Purebites chicken for Dogs seems a lot cheaper. Seem to be bigger but I could break them in half. Any reason they aren't ok for cats?

Thank you! Just asked that question before I saw your post. Purebites it is!

None of my 7 liked the ya treats. I always just gave my cat some cold cuts for treats.

I used temptations when she was too low. Gave 4-5 and 15 min later she was 100 points higher. I quickly saw how she became diabetic in the first place.

Can also try Vital Essentials treats. Chewy has them. I don't think you can get them in a store. Maybe giving a small meal of lc food @ 3 hrs before AMPS will help.

The problem with that is the timing. My husband only gets up about an hour before me when I take the BG. I got the Purebites chicken! Thanks everyone!

I spring for the Orijen treats for Teasel He loves them! :)
Squallie goes nuts for the Orijen treats. I use them for his ear-poke treats; he knows that's the only time he gets them (he gets other treats, just not the Orijen, throughout the day) so he always wants to be tested, lol. He comes running when he sees me take out the test kit!

Teasel's favourites are the Original and the Wild Boar.

A sample of Young Again treats came with the food I ordered, and neither of my cats would eat them.

Fancy Feast has treats called Purely that are just one ingredient, meat. They come in Chicken, Salmon and Tuna. I tried Chicken and Salmon. Neither cat wanted the Salmon. Mia likes the Chicken but my other cat was not interested. Not sure how these compare in price to the PureBites, but it's another option for you.

(By the way, I would spank the husband!:))

Lol! I have seen Tigger beg and it's inescapable so I guess I'll give him a pass.

Anyone know if Purebites chicken treats affect BG at all? I don't think my husband is going to be able to stand his ground up against a begging Tigger AMPS!

They're supposedly composed of freeze dried meat only so they shouldn't have a big impact on BG. Maybe give him a couple just before testing. They won't have an effect that quickly.

Thanks Kris :cat: I want Tigger to be happy too while doing what's best for his health. You can only stand up to begging so much! Without treats this morning his curve is going great so far today!
