Hi everyone!

So Lily has been off of insulin for 6 days, about 8 if you don't count the .25u I gave her on the 19th. She was diagnosed on 11/2/23, so these new low numbers and our current status have me hopeful, confused, and a little concerned!

If you look at her spreadsheet, you'll see that some of her recent readings have been pretty low. She isn't showing any signs of hypo - she's eating (maybe a little less than usual but that might be because we've been trying out new low carb foods since her diagnosis), sleeping, playing, active enough.

With her PMPS of 55 tonight before her dinner, I gave her a higher carb wet food mixed in with the one I would've given her. It's the Weruva Love Munchkin food that has 10% carbs, so within the allowed range for diabetics, but higher than we've been giving her. I've been trying to stay in the 4-6% range.

Any ideas for what might be going on? I brought up low numbers to our vet and he didn't seem concerned, but that was before she hit 55 tonight. I'm going to test her at some point before I go to sleep. I've got high carb dry food and temptations if people think it might be good to get her numbers a little higher.

Just to tag on to what Bron noted, a cat that is in remission is a diet controlled diabetic cat. You don't want to feed a diet controlled diabetic high carb food. Keep in mind that the normal blood glucose range is 50 - 120. If you're worried that Lily's numbers are dropping too low, give her some of her regular, low carb food. It will likely give her numbers a small upward bump.

Thank you both! So the 50-120 is for a pet meter reading? I kept coming across 80-120 as being the normal range, so was worried the readings in the 50s and 60s were cause for concern.

Pet meter reading …68 is the lower reading. The 50 to 120 is the human meter.
But in saying that…many cats that are not on insulin. (Or are not diabetic) have a lower BG than the 68 pet meter (or 50 human meter)
If Lily is not getting insulin she can’t go hypo.
Just try giving her some snacks to ease your mind. And remember there is always some meter variance…if you retested, the BG would probably be just that little bit higher.
