I dont get a chance to test everyday with work so i normally test on weekends. From last weekend her numbers have skyrocketed, gone a up a couple hundred points at peak time on lantus. My guess is the pen is almost empty, about a weeks worth. Is it possible this insulin is wore out,i think im going to open a new pen tonight but bad thing is i wont be able to test till next weekend again.

Hmmm yea mine is 85% gone. I have an extra len thank god. I just wish i knew if it fixes her numbers, cant test till next weeeknd

Do you get a test before you shoot??
Have those numbers also been up??

High numbers can sometimes be due to too much insulin.
How much insulin are you giving?
When was he diagnosed?
What dose did he start on?
How long has he been on current dose?

In order to better help you, it would be great if we had some more info on his BG. Have you not considered sharing his numbers? In order to give you good advice we need more to go on.

Looks like he had a low number back in september?? Did you reduce back then??

Lately ive been testing at or around peak times a few times a day on weekends. She started on 1.5 twice a day,has been on 2 units twice a day now for a year or so. When her numbers were low i lighlty lowed dose to just under two,now been back on two for a month or so now. Her numbers are around 200 or so now at 400.

Thanks for the reply, I'm not trying to be awkward here, but being that the advice we offer is data driven the info you have kindly given above is too vague for me to be able to help you.

All I can say is that what we do know about cats , and this has also been my experience, is that their insulin needs change over time, they can sometimes need more insulin and other times they need less, I would say that it is the norm for cats in the sort of numbers you are quoting to go up and down in dose.
I can't tell from the info you have given me if your kitty is on too much insulin, or not enough, I wish I could, but I just can't tell. I would however stand a better chance of helping you if you would share your numbers, as the majority of us do by using the ss that you can find in this link. I don't expect you to put all the numbers in, perhaps the last month, since that drop in September say. If setting the ss up is problematic for you, there are some members who will happily set it up for you, please just let us know.

Whatever numbers you have, we are not here to judge about how often you test, we are all about the kitties.

I'm sorry if this comment is not as helpful as you might have hoped for.

Just another thought, your meter will have a memory, so if you haven't written anything down, you should still be able to access his record on there.

If her numbers have been up for a few days when does ketosis kick in,does it take dayss, weeks? Depends on cat to i guess

It's a case of every cat is different.

Some cats are more prone to developing ketones and diabetic ketoacidosis (dka)

Test for ketones using ketostix when numbers are running high, this becomes even more important if kitty is unwell or not eating. High numbers, inappetence and infection are a recipie for dka.
Though it's important to note that a fd cat that is not eating or unwell can develop dka even if numbers are normal.

So if i feed her when i get home i shouldnt test her before shot?,she eats when i get home then hr latet or so i shoot. Should i test her right when i get home before i feed her instead of right before her shot? I also shooy her in the scruff, but diffrent spots of course

Hopefully tnight i can test her for ketones, she snuck a pee on me last night and i missed testing. Leave work here in 30 min, cant wait to see her. Been thinking bout her all day

New insulin has seemd to drop the numbers!

Hopefully that was the answer to the wonky numbers!!

It really would help if you'd start keeping track of the numbers you get when you test. We really rely on seeing a spreadsheet before we can give much in the way of helpful advice.

If you have any problems with getting it going, please feel free to send me a private message. I can set it up for you in about 30 seconds once I have some information from you so it's no problem at all!! Just click on my name and choose "Start Conversation"

I don't set a good example because Noah's spreadsheet is not published either. However; it's easy to do, no privacy issues, and it will give other members more to go on. Your personal profile is pretty bare. You don't have to fill it with your life story but info about other meds and supplements, other medical conditions, what time zone you're in etc. can be a big help. Also include any other cats, dogs or distractions in the house and if you're all alone doing this. My wife is here but is more than squeamish (NOT stupid) so the rest is up to me. If someone was going to flog you for not testing regularly it would have happened already. We're not here to judge you, only to help. Why don't you gather your thoughts and info, reset your profile page and start with a new post in Lantus? Forget about a highly technical name for your thread's title. How about "Need help, cannot test every day". Better Luck!
