? no insulin, no hypo ?

I'm a little confused.
I have read here that if your cat no longer receives insulin, they can't go hypo.

I am not now nor ever have used insulin. My blood sugar naturally runs on the low side. There have been times when it went really low. I get a headache, edgy and cranky. But I have learned throughout the years that's my body telling me to eat. I always carry a little something with me just in case.

So, if can happen to humans, why can't it happen to cats that aren't receiving insulin ?

It can happen to cats. “No insulin no hypo” gets repeated a lot around here, and while it’s mostly true, cats not on insulin can still have hypoglycemia if there is another medical condition causing it, such as an insulinoma. If a cat was not on insulin and testing in the 20s or teens you should still be concerned.
 
There are certainly cats who are in remission whose BG numbers are in the 40s or 50s at times. They may want to snack but not all cats communicate that well. They do not, however experience a symptomatic hypoglycemic event. It may help to remember that there is a difference between low numbers and hypoglycemia. You may experience low blood sugar but you're not truly hypoglycemic.

As to Sarah's point, she's correct. If there is some other condition that's causing numbers to crash, that's a different issue.

I just found out at this year's annual physical (for me) that low blood sugar can be a symptom of other issues, so make sure you get your blood work and labs done! If you've always been that way it's more than likely just your baseline.

Mr Kitty is in remission and I have seen some 40s pop up.
