I gave Daisy her med for this morning, and waited for a bit before offering her some food. I then tried to offer her food, but she turned her nose away from it. I called the vet, and inquired about her drooling. She asked if I had tried to force feed her, but I said that I hadn't, and will at that point. I fed her about 5 ml slowly of the Royal Canin Recovery RS food, watered down so that I could syringe feed. She took it like a little champ.

The technician called about 1 hour and told me to bring her in stat. I didn't waste any time; gathered up her meds to take with me, caught her before she had a chance to get away (she started to move at that point), put her in the carrier, and then headed out the door.

I got there, and they brought her back, and started her on IV fluids for starters. They're going to try and present her with food to see if she'll eat on her own first before they start force feeding her. She'll be there overnight, and then they will see how she does in the a.m. If she doesn't improve, she'll be given an ultrasound, and an x-ray to see if there's anything going on.

I'm praying that there's nothing wrong with her. I know she's 12, and will be 13 July 11th, but I don't want to lose her. Please God, I don't want to lose her.

Re: Daisy's Hospitalized - Prayers Desperately Needed Pls

The vet just called. Apparently, Daisy had vomited brown stuff, and it looked brown in color, and smelled like feces. She called to let us know that she's going to go ahead and do the x-ray to see if that's what was causing the blockage. She'll call back when she knows more. I will post at that time, also.

Angela, oh no! Sending prayers to you and Daisy. She's where she needs to be right now. Prayers to the vets too that they help her get through this.

Re: Daisy's Hospitalized - Prayers Desperately Needed Pls

Thank you all so very much for your prayers, and healing vines. They brought me to tears.

Before we left, I asked them to keep her covered while she was there as she loves to be covered up and warm. They offered to put a rice sock next to her to help keep her warm, and one of the vet techs said that she'll give her an extra blanket. My little Daisy loves to snuggle in blankets.

Re: Daisy's Hospitalized - Prayers Desperately Needed Pls

Sending prayers for Daisy and wisdom for the vet to treat her. Believing for a good report

Re: Daisy's Hospitalized - Prayers Desperately Needed Pls

Chances are what Daisy vomited was bile. It smells pretty foul. It may mean there is a blockage.

Re: Daisy's Hospitalized - Prayers Desperately Needed Pls

The techs sound very wonderful and loving. Our prayers continue....

I'm still waiting for the vet tech to call me back. I can only hope that it'll be treatable, and that she can come home. I won't feed my horse for fear of missing that call. My horse can wait.

Sending prayers for Daisy and for calmness for you. :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

Re: Daisy's Hospitalized - Prayers Desperately Needed Pls

Calmness will come in its own time for me. Right now, I'm just a basket case. I'm not eating enough, and I'm definitely not sleeping through the night. I keep waking up in the middle of the night with worry, even when she is here. Now, I'm not sure how I'll be tonight. For once, I just want some good news, and for my little Daisy to return home to me safe and sound so that she can live to happily to a ripe old age.

Re: Grim News - Daisy's Hospitalized - Prayers Pls

Just received the call from the vet, and they said that her insides are full of fluid, and gas, and they've started her on a medication call metocoopramide, and will give her another dose tonight. She's hoping that this will help to push things through. If not, surgery may be another option to manually remove it. At this point, it's looking like she won't be coming home alive. I'm starting to feel another loss already.

Re: Grim News - Daisy's Hospitalized - Prayers Pls

Paws crossed for the med to work or surgery, if necessary. (((((Angela)))))

Angela, I know this must be so very hard for you waiting and waiting, Know that we are all here for you and Daisy. Take care of yourself, try and eat something, anything, breathe deep and please keep us updated. I'm sending more and more prayers that an answer can be found to help make Daisy live to be that ripe old age you were talking about. :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

Re: Grim News - Daisy's Hospitalized - Prayers Pls

I'm trying to stay positive, and most importantly, hopeful. She also mentioned that there may be cancer throughout the lining of the intestines, or something, and if that's the case, then that would be no quality of life for Miss Daisy. She's going through so much as it is; I can't or won't allow her to through that.

The vet said that she's going to tube feed her, and it'll be a very light consistency food instead of something heavy.

She even did the Barium treatment.

I pray that this medication works for Daisy and helps to push everything through for her.

The vet is to call about 8:30 or 9:00 tomorrow. I'll let you know more when I hear from her.

Thank you all very much for your continued prayers, snowflakes, etc. I must go and take care of Blackie right now. Thank you all for being here for me. {{{{{{{{{{EXTREME HUGS}}}}}}}}}}

Re: Grim News - Daisy's Hospitalized - Prayers Pls

Angela --

I believe the medication is metoclopromide (or Reglan is one of it's non-generic names). It's used to increase motility. In other words, it helps the GI track to contract and move whatever is in there out. I believe Anne and Liz give this to Zener. It can also help with nausea.

I'm hoping this helps Daisy to feel better.

Re: Grim News - Daisy's Hospitalized - Prayers Pls

Sending more prayers, vines and hugs to you and Daisy, Angela.

It's actually good news that the x-ray only showed fluid and gas...Hopefully they won't find anything worse than that. The medication they've put her on (Metoclopramide) is in the same family as Zantac, which a lot of us give our kitties. In diabetics, there's a disease called Gastroparesis...which means "delayed gastric emptying"...it's caused by the same thing that causes neuropathy in their legs. Nerve damage caused by high blood glucose readings. The vagus nerve controls the movement of food through the digestive tract, so with the right medication, and treatment of her diabetes, she could still live a long, healthy and happy life!

Don't dwell on the worst case scenarios...Concentrate on the best case! That she'll recover from this bump in the road quickly, and be home with you soon!

Re: Grim News - Daisy's Hospitalized - Prayers Pls

Sending prayers that the medication helps and she feels better. :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

Re: Grim News - Daisy's Hospitalized - Prayers Pls

Prayers that the medication works. Lots and lots of prayers for both you and Daisy. Thank you for keeping us updated.

Re: Grim News - Daisy's Hospitalized - Prayers Pls

Dear (((Angela))), I know how worried you are. We are all sending prayers for Daisy and thinking positively. She is in the best place she could be to receive the treatment she needs. Just try to concentrate on her getting better. We will all do that. Help your other animals right now. Blackie needs you, too, and so do the other furries, and your horse is probably wanting his dinner.

Sending beautiful healing vines to Daisy and many hugs to you,

Ella & Rusty
