My cat was diagnosed about two weeks ago. We went back in for one Chuck and she goes back in in a week for her second check where they had upped her dosage of insulin. I am wondering if I’m actually giving her the insulin the needle is so small. I can’t tell if it’s puncturing her skin or not. I’ve seen some improvement as I’m not filling her water bowl as often does anyone else have a sure way of knowing you’ve done the injection? I can’t feel the needle puncture her skin.

Welcome to the FDMB. In order for us to help you we need some information about you and your sugar baby. What’s her name? How old is she? What are you feeding her? Which insulin are you using? Are you testing her blood sugar . If so which meter are you using, and human or pet? I have a feeling you have not done this yet since you have gone back to the vet weekly. It’s important to learn how as we all check before each shot to make sure the bg is high enough to give insulin. I didn’t test at first at home but had a meter ready. When I saw a rather low bg at my vet I started testing myself.

Feel the area after you inject and if really wet it’s likely a fur shot. If dry it went in. If at all wet you can’t assume it’s a fur shot so never shoot twice. You will get the hang of it.
We are very data oriented so you will need to eventually set up a spreadsheet and signature so we don’t keep asking you the same questions. There’s a lot to learn and lots of people here eager to answer your questions.
