the syringe I have goes all the way up to 100units/1ml on the syringe.
Sounds like you have 1ml u-100 insulin syringes.

What you really need are 3/10 cc u-100 insulin syringes.

U-100 is the strength of the insulin (100 units of insulin per ml for Lantus). The 1ml is how much liquid the syringe holds. Each “tick” mark on your current 1ml syringes should be 2 units.

It will be easier to draw the correct dose when you get the 3/10cc syringes as they only hold 1/3 as much liquid. Cats use such tiny doses compared to humans that it really does make a difference.

If you have any U-40 syringes (which is what you’d have used with the Vetsulin, a U-40 strength insulin), I’d label them as such and put them high up in the back of some cupboard once you switch to Lantus. If you accidentally use one of those U-40 syringes with Lantus, you will overdose your cat significantly.

annnnnnnnd it's well past time for a new thread, 103 replies whoa

for housekeeping's sake the admins ask that we cap threads to 50 replies and start a new thread if one gets that long. @eva eva please make a new thread once you get the new syringes.

Ok---- I will go exchange. or order new. I am back to the vetsulin with the proper syringe. until I get this cleared up. thanks for everyones' help!!!
This is just so much to learn in so little time.
Just want to be clear you said you are going to still continue with vetsulin until you get things cleared up
The syringes Hendricks Cuddleclaw posted are for glargine U-100 syringes half unit markings
So you are still shooting vetsulin which uses U-40 syringes with half unit markings correct?
@eva eva

Also You said you stopped the dry food on 7-29 , I think you can remove that from your signature now
Tap in your name above and the tap on signature and remove it

If you have a Walmart by you this was posted by one of our members , but you need to go into the store to buy them , they are not sold on their site

As for syringes, if you have a Walmart near you, you can get U100, 3/10ml, 30 or 31 gauge insulin syringes (the 3/10ml syringes ALL have half unit marks no matter what they might tell you). They should hold a maximum of 30 units. Either one of these is fine (and can be 30 gauge or 31) They are $12.58/100

I will go to walmart and check. I found this online. I think one of the members sent me this before as a link. This is what I am looking for? Thanks again.

Yes I am giving her the vetsulin still 1.5 units. U-40 3/10 syringe --the syringes I have do not have the half markings on them. i am estimating the amount of the .25 increases.

I did stop the dry. However, her sugar went low so quick that I put it out during day and take away at night. this is probably my issue with poor control. I have another cat who seems stuck on dry--snickers-- he is slender--I am not sure how well he will take to just moist food. I am trying dry foods with him that are low carb. so far---not much luck.....

I am working on getting rid of all dry. My only concern is when I leave the house ( I travel for my job gone 4-7 days) she would tank on her sugars and I wouldn't be here. ( i have a friend come in twice a day)

Also You said you stopped the dry food on 7-29 , I think you can remove that from your signature now--- thank-you-- so if there is dry still available in the house for my other cat --should I notate that?

OK if you are still feeding any dry at all then just go to your signature and remove where you wrote stopped 07/29 if you have dry down for your other cat doesn't Phoebe eat it and have access to it. When you're gone for 4-7 days for your job and your friend only comes there twice a day then of course the dry food would have to be left out. When you're away for work does your friend test Phoebe's BG before she gives her the insulin
