I'm heading to to bed (and not really experienced enough) and would feel remiss if I didn't post a little heads-up to this struggling newbie who says she's about to come back with a +1. It's Humulin-N...

i'm glad he's coming down! has anyone given you the link to the humulin N primer: http://felinediabetes.com/FDMB/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=303?
i have never used N and am reluctant to comment. there are others who are qualified to help. however, i suggest starting a new thread asking for help on Health and cross-posting in the VETSULIN / CANINSULIN/ HUMULIN N group in the morning.

You might want to open a new thread on the Health Board. Weeble's bean, Amanda, opened a thread to alert people here on the Lantus board to what was going on in your thread on Health. We are all Lantus users here and many/most of us do not have experience with Humulin N. If you start a thread on Health, people from this board will stop by there.

I will be switching more than likely to Lantus. Any information you can share or direct me to to understand what to expect when switching from Humulin N to Lantus would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I went from N to lantus with my vets advice wishing now I had just listened to this board and started out on a lower dose(vet started him on 2U) so I am no help to you at all just wanted to let you know that Do Lou had no problems at all with the switch to lantus,it is so much better then N IMO anyway Do Lou just went downhill for 4 months on N wish I had switched him sooner but I could not get my vets to do this N is the main insulin we use where I work as a tech. I am sure others will step forward with some advice for you concerning the switch good luck to you with Kahn

I would start by taking a look at the starred, sticky notes at the top of the Board. There is a huge amount of information there -- everything from how to handle Lantus (it's different than N -- no rolling or shaking), key concepts like the depot (or "shed"), our dosing protocols, and everything for the new Lantus user to know (e.g., how to do a curve, our slang, posting conventions on this Board).

I'd also suggest reading any of our condos (i.e., the thread each of us open daily -- one condo, per cat, per day) that look interesting to you and to take a look at our spreadsheets. Reading the discussions -- and socializing -- is a great way to learn.

And, ask questions. We love questions. The front end of the learning curve is a bit overwhelming and the people here are very generous in sharing their experiences.

Hi welcome to LL (LantusLand), As Sienne said read all the stickies at the top of the page. Be especially aware that the shed takes a while to build up, about a week , so the full effect of the dose isn't available right away. Don't get frustrated by not getting immediate results. Regularity in dosing and shot time are really important as well. Ask questions, that is what the board is for.
