New to group, transfer from prozinc

Hello, below is my chart so far with prozinc. Chika will be switching to Lantus tonight. The vet has instructed me to start at 2u.

I don't know how to attach her previous forum from the prozinc page.

Also attached is a photo of the syringes that they gave me... Will they work if the needle is much smaller than the ones I used before?

Thanks for the help in advance,
Tomikka + Chika

You will probably find those syringes hard to measure with since they are 0.5cc.

I would not restart at 2U. I would go with 3U but see if @tiffmaxee is around

If you do decide to go with two units, I would be prepared to increase her dose back up fairly quickly -- after maybe 6 cycles -- long enough to see if she reacts differently to the Lantus than she did to the ProZinc. You've got the Libre on her. If you decide to give her a higher dose, will you be at home this evening in case you need to feed her to keep her numbers up (hard to imagine, I know, since she's so high, but you never know.)

Hello and welcome over on this forum. A favour to ask, could you put a blank line in the spreadsheet between when you stop Prozinc and when you start Lantus. That way it'll be easier for us to spot.

3.0 units would be a better Lantus starting dose. We take the dose of the existing insulin, and how kitty is doing on it into consideration when switching. Chika hasn't even seen anything under 300 the last few days. Since you are cutting the dose down so much, make sure you test daily for ketones.

Thank you, I started her at 2u last night and seen little to no effect, should I up it to 3 tonight? I will be home and able to monitor her. Or do I need to wait for a full cycle, I do not have the supplies to test for keatones at home.

Hi Tomika, welcome to Lantus group, hope you will manage to see the biggest benefit from the switch :bighug:

Because the amount of people using Lantus is much bigger there are specific rules in the forum, to ensure better functioning of the group, please take a couple of minutes to go thru this post: https://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/posting-guidelines-please-read.231511/
All the posting rules are described there :cat:

take care and we will have our fingers crossed for you two :bighug:

Hi Tomikka. I see Chika has dropped low on this dose - although I am confused because when I looked at her spreadsheet earlier this evening the lowest I saw was 56 — it seems like the numbers have changed. She has earned a reduction of .25 units. You need to specify your reduction point by the way. If you are following the SLGS protocol then reductions are earned when she hits 90. If you are following Tight Regulation then the reduction point is 50. So if Chika were my cat, I would reduce tonight.

And she’s definitely bouncing this evening from the low numbers earlier today. This could take up to six cycles to clear. I hope it won’t take that long though.

Thank you for checking in on us. She was reduced tonight to 2.5, still high but as you said that is the bounce. We will continue to monitor closely and hold at 2.5 for the next few days.

I was rushing during the day to get numbers in while at work and got a few mixed up, what is in there now is the continuous readings from her freestyle for the am, she is still reading high this evening so her pm numbers are ear tests.

Good. She can bounce from any lower numbers than she is used to. So don’t feel badly that you made her bounce or anything. We have cats around her who bounce when they hit yellows (or even higher) — any number that their body is not accustomed to.

Thank you everyone for keeping an eye on us. I was so happy to see her numbers today!! We will hold 2.75 for the next few days. We have been doing great, my family offered to help with lunch time checkins while I'm at work and it has been such a relief.

Thank you all for your support
