So Cookie’s blood sugars during the day have been great. No issues there. During the night it’s a different story… we feed him at 8, wait at least 30 minutes afterwards to make sure he doesn’t vomit (he definitely has at least once so far) and then give his 2u of lantus. Last night, confirmed by both the libre and the alphatrak 3, he dropped to 57 at 330am! Even after watching him slowly drop up until then and feeding him carbs, he still went that low. After another can of wet food and some honey, he finally started going back up. It took a total of 4 hours before he was in a safe zone. I’m considering only giving him 1u during the night and 2u during the day… I don’t sleep at night. I’m lucky I have an understanding manager who let me have a free day off to catch up on my sleep, but this is going to make me sick if this keeps up.

For dinner, I tend to feed him half a can of no/low carb and half a can of FF medleys Tuscany tuna feast which is either 20 or 23% carbs and this is still happening. Any suggestions? It seems like he takes a bit to digest but the lows freak me out! Yesterday (7/19) was his best blood sugar day so far and now I’m messing it up by over doing it on his lows…

With the drop to 57 on the alphatrak meter you need to reduce the dose to 1.75 units moving forward. Instead of giving different doses for am and pm doses, you would be better to to reduce the dose as I have advised. Lantus works better with consistent dosing because it is a depot insulin.
I would look for food that has carbs around 6% and feed those. I would not feed high carb food routinely.

Do you have a food recommendation? Like a specific one then? Right now he eats FF seafood pate and we have calculated that has about 3.2% and 2.8% in the ones we give him. I have the giant food chart link, it’s just overwhelming. :(

No, I would have to suggest looking at the chart.
I feed a home made raw diet so am out of the loop with canned foods.
Ill tag @Diane Tyler's Mom as she may have some suggestions of foods that are around 6-7% carbs.
Do you use an automatic timed feeder at night and when you are not home to feed?

No, we are never not home at night. If we are gone for a period of time, we have a 24 hour vet that has medical boarding and are very aware of his situation.

Are you testing for ketones yet?
I’ve been checking them every day since he’s been home. He’s always negative.

I'm sorry to hear about your boy, I can inky suggest that you look at the food chart for 6 or 7% carbs.
I hope he's doing better :cat:
