Hi everyone,
Our cat Charlie, who has been with us for 9 years now, was diagnosed on Jan 19th and is taking Senvelgo. We are very aware of the risks and are doing everything to monitor for serious side affects.
We had a good routine going to administer the med (he hates liquid meds), but last night we had an incident that has broken his trust. He had gone to the vet for a follow up. He doesn't like the carrier, but handles it well and is ok after. However, on top of the visit he also has to wear a shirt to cover the libre monitor. The new spot they placed it in seems quite irritating to him.
I couldn't get the shirt on right away and decided to see how he handled it. When he tried biting at the sensor, I just simply put my hand up to block him from doing that without doing anything to push his head away. This caused him to hide under the bed.
After about an hour he came out for food and water, and it was about an hour away from med time. I made the bad decision of closing the bedroom door, which scared him a lot.
We got the shirt on him and med done, but now he hides from me Everytime I go into the bedroom, except at night after we're settled into bed. I don't know how I'm supposed to rebuild his trust when he needs to have his med on time. I don't want to force him out of his safe spot, but he won't respond to treats or catnip because he knows I'll take him after to do the med.
Any know what I can do to make this less stressful so I can rebuild our relationship? I feel so guilty and sad that he can no longer enjoy his usual activities with us.
