Would anyone be able to help with some guidance? Currently my vet is going slow, which I appreciate. Lantus 1 U is every 12hr, feeding 4 times a day, food left until finished usually eaten right away. 2 curves done so far. Second curve will be done this Tuesday then I will report to the Vet. Fructosimine will be done on 4/12. Also not sure if you can see Jack's SS so please let me know. I'm eager to keep learning!!

Hi Vicki and Jack and welcome.
Well done hometesting and having the SS and signature up and running!
Are you using a Lantus pen….that is one where you can only go up in 1 unit increments?
If that is the case I would highly recommend you buy some insulin syringes so that you can go up in 1/4 unit increments. Going up in 1 unit increments is too much.
You will need U100 3/10 ml 30 or 31 gauge 6 or 8 mm insulin syringes. Not sure if you can buy 1/2 unit markings on the syringes where you live but if you can all the better.

Looking at the SS, which I can see:), I can see you are not getting any tests in at all during the pm cycles. The pm cycle is just as important as the am cycle as cats often drop lower at night. are you able to get some tests in at night? A before bed test is a good habit to get into. If that test is much lower than the preshot test, I would set the alarm and get up and test again to see it hasn’t dropped too low.
Are you able to get any tests in during the other cycles at all? It would be good to see how he is going on other days.
I think he needs an increase up to 1.25 units, but you need to be getting some pm tests in first because he could be dropping at night and bouncing during the day and we don’t know.

A fructosamine test is a waste of money if you are hometesting the BGs. It is a good test to diagnose feline diabetes but if you are testing yourself after diagnosis it’s a waste of money. The vet might like it as that is how they used to be able to see how a cat was going but now that a lot of us are hometesting the test is really redundant.
You can also feed more than 4 times a day if you like. A lot of us give two snacks during each cycle as well as the preshot meal.

.

This is how you use an insulin syringe if you already have a pen

Thank you Bron, yes I draw from the pen with a syringe. Can I test more yes. My biggest concern are that his numbers have been very consistent. I also had a scare with another post yesterday about his Lantus. Since I have the pen, the storing instruction are once pen is opened to store at room temp. which I have been doing, also even asked my vet and he said follow the labeling. So the concern is, is the insulin working? I do see the point of how would I know since I'm not mid cycle testing.

the insulin is supposed to be fine for up to 28 days at room temperature.

Most members here are refrigerating their Lantus pens because a cat uses smaller doses and they have found that with refrigeration and proper handling, they can use the insulin for much longer than 28 days. Even though that is not what the manufacturer says, technically.

Kyle is correct. I would keep Gabby's pen in one of the drawers in my refrigerator (so it wasn't banged around). I could use a pen for 3 months.

Thanks for adding the meter to your signature Victoria ,can you link your spreadsheet underneath your signature, if you notice everyone's Spreadsheet is linked under their signature :cat:

You need to be getting tests after AMPS such as a test at +3, +6 and +9 just not doing them for curves

Switch up the tests on other days ,like filling in pieces of a puzzle
The more data the better

I think you can start posting on the lantus board
I'll give you the link at the end of this
OK you will start your title like this
Date- Jack , then AMPS #,then any test after that, to go back and add them look to the right you will see it says Thread Tools, tap on that ,then tap on Edit Title and add the tests such as +2 then the BG # , +4 then BG number ,+6 then BG number ,then tap on Save Changes
Then you go back at night and just put PMPS- the number and any after that

We do a new post every day there are many lantus users there ,and more eyes on that board.
Where you would start to write something about Jack you would always link the previous days post to the new one in case members want to go back and read something.
The link is all the way up top above where the pic of the cat is , in the long box ,just copy it and then paste it to the new days post
Then start writing something like this Hi my name is Victoria and my cats name is Jake
I was posting on the Main Forum before moving over to the lantus board
Continue to write whatever you want to

So it's a new post everyday .The members there are very nice and helpful, you will get to know them.
In case you ever need help ASAP such as if his BG is too low and you don't know if you should shoot just put NEED HELP ,Date ,Jack Need help with dose

Here is your previous post
