Hi again, I had posted recently a few weeks ago, thought then that perhaps the insulin was bad..(insulin was replaced at that time). I have been home with him a lot, and done ALOT of testing over the past few weeks... but what I've not done is discovered any 'pattern' ... and I feel like I'm shooting blind, feel as though he is bouncing all the time or ... something, I just don't know. Can anyone make any sense of his numbers and give me advice on a sliding scale, like how much to shoot @ x number?

For a long while he was predictable, I knew each .1 would drop him roughly 100pts, now, it feels like his numbers are all over the place, and I can't seem to get a handle on what the problem is. He has also been very pushy about testing.. several of the very lows I recorded were HIS idea, I had NO clue it was a problem til the test was done! (I had thought based on the numbers prior, that all was ok .. /sigh .. this is what I mean, every time I think I have a clue, I find out I'm wrong) He isn't pushing because of treats, he almost never gets them now (well, 1-2 times per week max)

Any ideas? My head keeps going back to food, but I don't have a way to keep him separate from the others... I am again researching raw, but 3 time now I've bought just raw chicken thigh (like I would eat) .. tried it twice just raw cut up, no dice, they wouldn't touch it, baked some and a few of them ate that, but only because I didn't put other food down at the time I think, plus, cooking probably ruined it nutritionally :(
- Also, for my situation, raw seems like it is going to be difficult... yea maybe it IS easy to make a batch for one or two weeks when you have only one... I have 12, that's a lot more work, and a LOT more storage needed, or I'd need to do it every couple days (which I can see me getting tired of MIGHTY fast- I only shop for canned food once per month!)

I'm interested in what your .8 does today. On 6/12, the one unit Looked a smidge too high and maybe set up a few bouncy cycles. 0n 6/13 the .5 looked good but gave you a bounce too. Two choices, shoot a little less and hope he settles in and the bounces flatten out. If that works, then add a fat dose of that same amount. Or try a little more, keep him in better nadir numbers but be prepared for the bounces to last awhile.

It's a waiting game when they start the bouncy stuff. The theory is they bounce until they stop. Not sure why he has started that, but it does get frustrating and requires patience.

So far it looks kind of like the food dishes... a bit of a drop going in, and then flat. : /

So what dose would you recommend I use for the 'wait and see' if he settles in? I had tried the .3 thinking he was bouncing and would come down, but it didn't look like it was helping.. It really doesn't help me figure things out, either, when he is begging and pleading for the shot 6 hours before its due :( But then on 6/14 I got a 96 @am+3 on only .5, so maybe go .4 and stick to my guns? I had thought the beef food was an issue, read somewhere (can't find it now) that beef has been associated with diabetes, but his numbers are just as crazy even with no beef in 5-6 days, so I'm going to return beef to the lineup, they miss it, so few they like anymore.

ETA: Should I be possibly looking into different insulins? Could/would that possibly help?

Late responding here, Barb. Sorry. The .8 on 6/20 looked good but he certainly hasn't been consistent. Not sure why the preshots are going up. And without much of a pattern. Some of the cycles look very nice; others seem very bouncy.

Certainly another insulin might help. You might pm Jen and Eddie. She was on ProZinc and he was bouncy. She switched to Lantus. I think he continued to be bouncy for quite a while but eventually settled in.

Just the other day I was looking at a new Drs Foster & Smith and found a feeding bowl that opens only for the cat that is wearing the "key" to open it. It was called "WonderBowl Selective Feeder". It was priced at $59.99. You could maybe put a little snack in it to hold him over until regular feeding time? The other cats wouldn't get into it and you then could give smaller meals three times a cycle. Just a thought.
