Hi,

I posted about Misty's numbers a few days ago and was told to test more often. I have some more numbers in my spreadsheet now and need some dosing advice.
Her numbers look terrible to me, they're often worse than the reading the vet took and at that time she was terrified and on dry food. Does she need more insulin? Or less, is she bouncing?
I'm also really confused about the curve I took yesterday. Why did the insulin seem to raise her BG?
Sorry for the double post, I just don't want to keep possibly dosing her wrong so I need some quick advice. Thank you all

Those are some pretty ugly numbers!

I think I'd go up to 1.25 tomorrow
I will try that. Bron told me she might be bouncing but her most recent curve doesn't look that way. I guess it's possible I might have given a fur shot that morning, but I'm 90% sure I didn't. So you don't think she's bouncing and just needs more insulin?
Confused because she read 508 at the vet and is consistently reading 600+ now even though she's getting lc food and insulin. Any insights? Thank you so much for your help

I don't see any obvious (or even possible) signs of bouncing at this point. The best thing you can do though is continue always getting the Pre-shots and get at least 1 mid-cycle test on the AM cycle (if at all possible) and at least a "before bed" test on the PM cycle (and if you can't get mid-cycle's on the AM due to work, it's really helpful to get at least 2 other tests on the PM cycle.

As for being 508 at the vet and 600+ at home, blood glucose monitors are allowed a 20% variance from what you'd get on professional lab equipment, so those are basically the same number.

A 500 could be as low as 400 and as high as 600
A 600 could be as low as 480 and as high as 720

Unfortunately I can't get tests during the am on weekdays due to work. I could try for more on the pm, but I don't think I can regularly do later than +3 without messing with my sleep schedule. Should I do +1 and +3?
So if her numbers are essentially the same as at the vet, does that mean the food switch (kirkland signature dry to tiki cat wet) and the insulin she's getting isn't helping at all? Is there anything else I can do?
Sorry for all the questions, I'm just really confused :(

It's still very early in her treatment so try not to worry as much. You're doing the best you can and we can't ask for much more. On your days off, grab extra tests and/or do a curve to help fill in some of the blank places on the spreadsheet.

There are also some good idea's in this Lantus thread on Testing when you have a full time job. You don't have to use Lantus...some of the idea's are still good for ProZinc

It was a good 5-6 months before China started showing me anything that resembled a pattern and that we were getting somewhere. One thing this disease will teach you is patience, whether you want to learn it or not!

I think you should plan on testing as much as you can and then don't hold the dose you're giving more than 7 days (unless you're starting to get into much better numbers like blues). If the dose is going to work, you should know within that time so don't hang onto a dose too long. It just lets her body get used to being that high even with the insulin.

Never apologize for asking questions! That's what we're here for!!

Thank you so much for your detailed response! I'll start 1.25 units tomorrow night so that I can be home to monitor her. That thread was really helpful. I really appreciate it :bighug:
