I use a 6 ml/cc syringe. My cat gags on the Fancy Feast Classic so I need something with a smoother consistency.Get a syringe with a bigger nozzle. I use that and FF or Friskies pate.
What brand is A/D? Hills? This has a low carb content? For syringe feeding, the recovery/convalescence foods can be used, such as A/D (about 15% calories from carbohydrate).
Yes indeed.I guess the bigger question is why you feel she's not eating enough.
I have to give her meds daily and the only way I can is thru syringe feedings. She hasn't developed an aversion to the food I feed by syringe.Yes indeed.
Why will your cat not eat?
.
This has rice. Isn't that an ingredient that should be avoided?Iams Maximum Calorie is designed for syringe feeding and has twice the calories of a/d - 340 per can vs 180. It's also low carb, 5% calories from carbs. I guess the bigger question is why you feel she's not eating enough.
Melanie, which Wellness product do you buy? The Core or Grain Free or another one? ThanksI find Wellness Chicken in the 3oz cans very easy to get smooth when I water it down. In the 5.5oz cans or the other flavors, the consistency changes and there are bigger chunks of carrot and pepper so its not as easy to get smooth.

I made my own for a while, when I was on palliative care duty for my cat with diabetes. I used a blender in which I blended his regular prescription Royal Canin S/O Diabetic wet food with a bit of "cat milk" (found this product at the pet store...it's not really milk, but milk-like liquid food supplement that cats can actually process). The liquid made it easier to force-feed with a syringe.Looking for a low carb canned food I can force feed my cat with a syringe when she won't eat on her own. I was giving her Fancy Feast Classic but it's not smooth enough to force feed. Suggestions?
Yikes. I am glad I pluck the black stuff out.See "tapetum lucidum" There's a picture part way down showing the black backing on the orb.
Probably but the black stuff doesn't go through the syringe.A cat might eat that.
keep in mind that anything you syringe feed they will develop an aversion too.... so try not to use favorite foods.
Iams Maximum Calorie Plus is 9% and over 55 calories an ounce. It has a very soft texture, good for syringe feeding. And if you are syringe feeding you probably need the extra calories, you also don't need to get nearly as much into him.
True. Is this OTC or by prescription? This would be good to have on hand. It's on the upper edge of LC, but if you need to syringe feed the important thing is to get enough calories in.
