This past Wed, my cat had his first appointment since week one of his diagnosis. Simon is recently in a tenuous remission (gave him a drop the other day due to a high pre shot number but he seems to do better with food than with insulin so back to no shot) and I decided to print out ALL of his spreadsheets for the last 7 months of data and bring them with me to the appt. My vet FREAKED out when he saw them and all of the work we put into this and the information he could get from this. He then sent me the following e-mail which I received yesterday and I posted it on the PZI boards but it was suggested I share it here with all of you! See below!
Joyce-
I was sitting down having a cup of coffee and decided to peruse Simon's spreadsheets that you left for me when he came in on Wed. last. I have to tell you that I am duly impressed with all that you have accomplished these last several months without any guidance from me. I do not see a lot of cats with feline diabetes and frankly I do not have as much experience as I would like with this.
I knew you were home-testing as your husband told Janis when he came in to pick up the insulin but I had no idea that you were doing so much work with this spreadsheet and watching for spikes and drops and dosing accordingly. I am so impressed!
You mentioned the feline diabetes message board as a place you got information and help with this and I wanted to ask you for the link so I can make sure any newly diagnosed patients have access to this because what you did is so truly amazing. I am really very happy that Simon is doing so very well. Please keep up the great work and Happy Holidays to you and yours.
Sincerely,
Dr. K
