I had to put my 4 year old cat Max to sleep today. He has been battling hemolytic anemia for the past year and a half with relapses almost every 3 months. This last one was the worst so I brought him in and not only was his spleen extremely enlarged, we discovered he also had cancer. I decided he had already been through enough so going forward with more tests to find out more about the cancer and going into chemotherapy was just not worth it.

Out of my three cats, 13, 11 and 4 years old, I never expected the 4 year old would go first. It feels so unfair. I can't believe I will never see him again. I love cats so much but this part is just too hard.

My sincere condolences on the passing of your dear baby Max. For what it's worth...I think you did right ny him...This truly IS the hardest part. My heart goes out to you.

Fly free dear Max. God surely has a special mission for you, to take you so young. Please kiss his little head and tell him his mommy loves him soooo much.

I am so terribly sorry for your loss. My guy Owen is fighting hard right now but today has not gone well so I am fearful I will soon be there too.

Someone told me once that sometimes the greatest gift we can give our pets is to take away their pain and make it our own. I know the loss is simply all consuming but for some reason I have always found that that thought resonates with me and helps me bear it.

You did the right thing for your darling Max. Sending lots of hugs your way.

Dear Angela,

I am so very, very sorry for the loss of your four year old Max. It is so hard to see our young furbabies become so ill with diseases that are mostly impossible to recover from.

Almost 4 years ago, I lost my Proto, who had just turned 5 years old when he blocked in his urethra, and the vet could not save him. He also had other health issues, but I think he was the hardest one to lose that year when I lost 5 cats in 6 months.

My heart and prayers truly go out to you at this difficult time. Fly free, little Max!

I'm so sorry to for your loss. But you gave him the best life he could have had. He will live on in your heart. What more could any of us want.

I'm sorry to hear this, but you really did do the best thing for both of you. He was probably miserable and needed to be in a peaceful place. I know how tough it is, but you will someday only remember the sweet things about him. You gave him the best and final gift of release.

I am so sorry for your loss. 4 years old is young. Sounds like you did the right thing for him though. He has a much better life for you. And now you have a special angel watching you. Hugs to you and your other fur babies.

Love-
Niki and Oreo
