Murphy - Not Sure What Is Happening

Hello all. Murphy and I would like to say HNY to all first of all. It's been a while since we've been on the board. Murphy appears to have something happening to her healthwise, although I am not sure until I see Dr. Renee on Thursday. I've seen one or two areas where one of the cat's has vomited, and I think it's probably her. I am seeing her licking her lips as well. I started the Metoclopromide again to help the nausea. She doesn't appear to be in diabetes again, her BG is normal, 116 a few hours ago. But, does anyone know if you can have pancreatitis without being diabetic?

Otherwise, we are looking at the fact that she may have developed CRF. She drinks quite a bit, and her urine puddles are about the size of hamburger patties.

Any thoughts?

She's just not been the same since I was hospitalized for two months. I came home and she had so much muscle wasting I couldn't believe it. Her back is so highly arched now -- that I cannot tell if she took a fall trying to get at Oscie's food while I was away, or if the muscle wasting is related to an arthritic condition.

This really scares me. She's been such a bubble baby for so many years. I'm starting to see a real turn of events in her health.

I'm sure the vet visit will help answer your questions. Will they run a blood test to check her thyroid?

Keeping fingers and paws crossed.

Sure she can have pancreatitis without diabetes, and if you are wondering, have the vet include the fPLI test in the blood tests that are done.

You have taken care of nausea you said; I usually gave pepcid, 1/4tab of reg strength Pepcid AC BID for Shadoe as she was always upset and it helped her. Pain meds and also fluids were the other 2 items needed for treating pancreatitis.

When I first switched to a diff vet, he said to give her weekly shots of b12, the pink stuff, for her inflamed pancreas. Since starting the shots, she had only one bout in months, so that's another thing you could discuss with your vet if the PLI test comes out positive.

I had also given the shots to Oliver as his PLI results were always just over the max of normal range 0-3.5... he was always around 4.0.

I hope you can get some answers from your vet.

Just wanted to clarify that you're not using a freestyle lite meter to check Murphy's BG. Those have been found by many to be totally unreliable at higher BG levels by giving much lower readings than they should. Seems to be something to do with a change to the strips about 12 months ago.

If it is pancreatitis it could bring about the return of the diabetes too

Good luck with the vet visit I hope you get some answers and that she's easily treatable.

The time we ran a panel was in December. We also did one in November when I came home from the hospital after being gone for 8 weeks. Her PLI, if I recall, was around 6.0. I think that if Dr. Renee thought there was a problem, she would have told me, but now that I think about it --- every time I go to pick her up, she whines. Possibly she does have this. I use the OTU meter, which I have used since we started with the diabetes. I've been feeding them Wellness canned grain free and then of course, she wants to graze like Oscie, so I have to leave the food out for them all day. I may pick up some A/D today since she appears to not be feeling well. At least that is pallatible and easily digested, for sick kitties.

I'm really concerned about this one guys. Ever since I came home -- after that pet sitter ordeal, she has never been the same. Her poor little spine is like a rollercoaster, and I'm wondering if she fell.

Also, I'm not certain how I can stimulate her appetite. I can only give her about 1/4 food to give her the Panakare Plus and her acetyl l-carnitine, along with her Cosequin. Otherwise, she wouldn't eat the wet.
