I took Murphy in this a.m. She wouldn't eat again and wasn't drinking no matter what I did. They gave her sub-q's and kitty morphine for the pancreatitis, and I have to take her back in tomorrow for more fluids. Her vet also ran a pre-anesthesia panel - I think she's just trying to rule out everything.

so you have her back home with you now?
i'm so sorry she's not feeling well. if it is pancreatitis, my cleo gets it too and it is extremely painful. we treat with injectable pepcid, buprenix (pain meds), and subQ fluids. i learned how to give subQs when she was first diagnosed with diabetes and it's a real blessing to be able to do them at home. really helps when her numbers are high or she's feeling punky.
we can help walk you thru it if you need help.
(((Lisa))) hope murphy is feeling better soon.

Yes, this is the other part of this icky disease that I so much to learn about, not knowing what to look for and all. But, at least now, I know that if she starts getting uncomfy when I pick her up to give her the inhaled meds in the a.m., and p.m., then I know something is happening. And, OMG - the lethargy!!! She had a fever this a.m., and they said she ate very well today, but I did give her dindin, she didn't eat everything, but maybe because they had already fed her, gave her the Lantus, and just checked and her BG was 136! I wish it would stay like that, but I know it's because of the reduced caloric intake today. She seems to feel better with the fluids and her BG being lower. Smelly poopies though!!! I am going to speak to her vet tomorrow about what labs have come back and it's probably a good idea to make sure there is nothing else going on - i.e., kidneys, liver, etc. At least we can get that out of the way. And, then I will speak to her about sub-q's at home. Wish her BG was always 136!

How much pepcid would I give her and how many times per day? She is going to get kitty morphine twice per day - boy I hate that on top of the ivermectin for the d. cati and MRSA right now. What will the pepcid do?

pepcid helps with tummy upset, gas, and liver support. if you give it in pill form i'd would start with 1/4 Pepcid AC once a day and go up if necessary. injectible i give about 11u in a U100 syringe twice a day when i give insulin. i went to injectible coz cleo gets so many pills that it's one less pill to deal with.

pancreatitis is a tricky one, coz cats can get different symptoms. some meatloaf, some have hi numbers, some vomit a lot, some are inappetant, some drink a lot of water -- really depends on the cat. many diabetic cats get pancreatitis, and it's extremely painful.

Pepcid AC (Not Pepcid Complete).

1/4 of a 10mg tablet 2x/day, or 1/8 of a 20mg tables 2x/day.

You can get 'generic' brands at stores like WalMart, Costco, Walgreens, CVS, RiteAid.

Usually, they say give the dose 1/2 hour before a meal, 2x/day. But I just gave it to
Smokey at his regular meds time, 2x/day, disregarding meal time. Seemed to work.
