His number looked pretty good, I am going to be sticking with the 2.5 dose for the next week and see how we get on.

amps: 27.7 (498.6)
+4 18.1 (325.8)
+6 13.8 (248.4)
+10 13.2 (237.6)
pmps: 19 (342)

Overall, pretty happy with that!

It is a calm curve, for Canninsulin - not a harsh drop and then rapid rise. Since he is new to diabetes and the food change, I think sticking with the dose a few days is a good plan.

It would probably be wise to test for ketones also: ketones

Sue, thanks for that link, it helps to get a better idea of what we're dealing with here. I might have gotten lucky with a cat that just might do ok with Canninsulin, running this 2.5 dose for a few days then maybe start figuring out how to get the numbers lower.

Cheers Catherine! Knowledge is definitely power with this, it's a big weight to know what's going on!

I successfuly managed our cat on Canninsulin. When chagnes were necessary to dosage, they were made on a weekly basis and no sooner. we went from 3 IU's twice a day to 1 IU twice a day based on glucose curves and then down to 0.5 iu's twice a day and finally 0.5 IU once a day for a week then OTJ.

Hope this helps. Diet is also so very important....wet food, low carb high protein is the only way to go.

Glad to hear people are doing well on Caninsulin. Issey did brilliantly today - till I went to pick her up. They did a final BG at 6.30 when I was there - so I could have another lesson in the Alphatrak - and it was 1.9!!!! Jeez. Anyway, she wouldn't eat, of course, so they syringed 25ml of the Hills AD down her and 15 mins later she was back up to 3.9. Three hours later, she is on 9 (after coming home and eating quite happily, of course).
I think it happened because she is a grazer and had not done so at the vets today - just had one meal in the morning - so they will do it differently next time. Apart from that though, her curve was exactly as before, so they don't want to see her again for a curve for four weeks, unless I am unhappy with home testing.
I've borrowed their Alphatrak as mine still hasn't come in and I found it really easy to use tonight, and Issey was brilliant, so thanks to you all for advice and support on that!
Am going to try her on some of the Applaws wet food in the morning and leave out the Hills MD (I know, but I know she will eat it and I am now going to do some proper research into foods I can get here to try and wean her off it. I got some of the Applaws complete dry, which did not look too bad on a quick glance in Pets at Home, so will give the label a proper going over tomorrow.
Thanks again for being here x
