Mimi reading 21/12 - Hypo? Help!

Hi there,

Mimi has transitioned from Prozinc to Lantus last week as she wasn't doing well on it, going from extremes of really high to really low all the time despite regular control and dosage adjustment. We've been monitoring her all day and here is her chart. I'm a bit worried about that last number as earlier she was at the lowest point of her blood sugar at +6 after her injection and it's only been 3 hours... She also ate her whole food in one go, which she's only ever done when she was in hypo before. We've given her a bit of honey and are continuing to watch closely.

Ok. I’ve just looked at the SS again and the decimal points have disappeared and it makes sense now. So it was the 79 you were concerned about, correct?
The take action number for the alphatrak meter (cat meter) is 68 so you are safe down to that number. If you see the numbers dropping too fast you can always give your kitty some food to slow down the drop. Giving that honey when you were not sure was ok. Test again in 30 mins after the honey to see kitty has not dropped further.

That drop to 79 is very early in the cycle so I would give her some more food to bring the BSL up a bit.
How did you arrive at the 3 units? If she is going from high to low numbers all the time, she might be on too high a dose of insulin.

Could you fill out your signature please so we can see a bit about Mimi. Top right hand corner under your user name. Go to signature then save. Tell us date of diagnosis, insulins used, dose, illnesses, type of food used, meter type, country you live in, your name, cats name. This will save us having to ask you multiple times for the info. Thanks :)

What was Mimi's dose on Prozinc? Do you have any data from her time on that insulin that you can put in the spreadsheet? Even the last week or two will help us determine if you are starting on the right Lantus dose.

From reading your first post, sounds like you got as high as 2.5 units of Prozinc, so that should have been the starting Lantus dose.

And from your first post, no problem introducing older cats to raw food. My girls started on it at age 11 and loved it.

Just an FYI, the information that goes in the AMPS and PMPS column is your pre-shot test information. It's not the time that you shoot. You need the AM Pre-Shot (or PM Pre-Shot) test data so you know it's safe to shoot.
