When I first started testing Sami I picked up a meter from CVS. The one thing I don't like about this meter is that I am restricted to purchasing supplies at CVS. Today, I was checking out the meters at other stores and found that strips for some other meters are far less than the strips needed for the meter I purchased. I have the True Test and the strips are $69 for 100.

What meter do you use and what is the cost of the strips? I wouldn't mind being tied to a different store if I can save money and the accuracy is good.

I have been using the relion micro from walmart, which i like. the meter is under $10 and the strips are $22 for 50. i just ordered a meter from www.hocks.com tough-nova max (i think) and they had a deal for $33 i got the meter and 100 strips.
 
I used to use the True Track brand - different than True Test brand, but also sold at WalGreen's , CVS, even Costco I think. You could get strips for it at any of those stores. You can also get True Track and other strips at Hocks.com - if you click the Hocks.com link box Rebecca set up, FDMB gets 8% kickback from your purchase!

But by far the best deals on strips are on Ebay! I'm almost to the point of hating to give out this tip because the prices on my meter's strips seem to be going up on there, but if you're diligent you can still get good deals. Accu-Check Aviva strips for less than $25/50. I used to buy True Track strips on there for $12/50!! I just like the Aviva better now. There's some debate about which meters are better, Consumer Reports had a rating article and the Wal-Mart Reli-On meter scored better than some of the most expensive meters!

Please remember the size of the blood droplet is important. The smaller the better! Aviva is very very good with small drops. The Reli-On is too.
 
I also use the Walmart Relion meter. I have been very pleased with it. The strips are sold at Walmart and also Sam's club. I also believe you can order them online from Walmart.com.
 
Thanks for all the information. I will probably pick up the Relion meter from Walmart. It is inexpensive and rated highly by consumer reports. Hopefully I will be able to get the syringes with half unit marks from Walmart too.
 
Make sure you get the Relion Micro meter and not another one. The other style one they were in the process of phasing out last I heard, plus the Micro has the smallest blood sample requirement - and we all know how important that is.
 
I'm new at this too and picked up the True2go meter at CVS using the True test strips. You can get them at Hocks for $24.99/50. The sample size isn't quite as small as the the Relion, but about the next closest that I found, .5 compared to Relion's .3

Just looked at Sami's SS. That's a big difference between the 2 meters. Have you tested them both?

That is the one I got, but have found Sami's readings to be way different on this meter vs. the True Results metter that I have been using all along. You can see the discussion in yesterday's condo.

I ended up ordering the One Touch Ultra Mini because it is the top rated glucose meter by Consumer Reports. Hopefully I can be more confident about the readings with this meter.

Also, I don't know if the strips could be bad with the new meter. We did purchase the meter and strips and then they were left in the car while we did some additional shopping, no more than 45 minutes at a time, but it was very cold yesterday. I wonder if that could be a factor.
