metamucil??? citrucel? slippery elm? constipated diabetic kitty

hi all

my boy is having constipation, most likely due to unregulated diabetes. recent visit to new vet recommended in addition to the miralax we're already using, to add some fiber. she said Metamucil.

i went to store today and all metamucil is orange flavored. i cant give him that! and i didnt realize all metamucil is is psyllium husk which i already have at home in Vetasyl.

so while i was at store i looked at other options. citrucel is methylcellulose with nothing else in it. anyone try that? it was $20 for a big bottle so i didnt buy it.

we've tried pumpkin but he must find it unpalatable because he wont really eat his food if i put it in there.

any other fiber i can add?

EDIT: ANYONE TRY SLIPPERY ELM FOR CONSTIPATION?

Can you find Benefiber? It's absolutely tasteless and can be added to water for humans.
 
If pumpkin is too strong a taste, try cooked, plain butternut squash. It is milder. (You might be able to find it as a single ingredient baby food. Do read the label).
 
I mix a teaspoon of pumpkin and 1/8th teaspoon of Slippery Elm powder into his food twice a day. I also use 1/8th teaspoon of probiotics mixed with his 1st meal of the day.
 
I should've also mentioned adding as much water to the wet food as your cat will tolerate can help tremendously. I had to gradually build up to an soup-like consistency and he will now lick everything up to the last drop. And I can add even more water half way thru his eating if it's a food, like raw, that he loves.

I use miralax with good results and recently started using fortiflora. My cats love it although a little expensive.
