OMG. I am in shock. I am so so sorry to hear this. You didn't fail him. Something was obviously going on that the vet didn't diagnose and you tried your best based on the information you had. Sometimes no matter how hard we try, we can't fix the problem. :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

I am so sorry to hear this, my heart breaks for you. You did not fail Max. You did everything you could.

I never ever thought I would wake up to this... he acted like a kitten last night before we went to bed...... I pray he knows how much he was loved.....

I am sure Max knows that you loved him so very much. As Linda said something else was going on that the vet didn't diagnose, You did everything you could and did not fail Max. Again I'm so sorry and my heart breaks for you
 
You gave Max a loving home he wouldn't have know otherwise. He knows he was loved. You got him medical attention when he needed it. He was a young cat which makes me think there may have had some issues from the time you took him into your family. The people who gave him up didn't tell you about the elimination problems and I can't help but wonder if they knew anything else they didn't tell you. These little critters are so good at hiding how they are feeling and they sometimes don't give us much in the way of clues to work with.

His BG was fluctuating erratically with virtually no rhyme or reason which makes me think there had to be an underlying issue that wasn't picked up by the vet. You had no way to know there was anything extremely serious going on and if the vet didn't pick anything else up on examination, how could you have known?

Sometimes these things happen and there just isn't an answer. You gave Max a loving family when a lot of folks would have given up on him long ago. You were his guardian angel and now he is yours. :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:
 
Oh no, I am so sorry to read this! You didn't fail him, you were doing your best to take care of him. Please don't blame yourself. Peace and comfort as you deal with this grief, be kind to yourself. Max wouldn't want you to be in pain or blame. He's frolicking in a warm green meadow, chasing butterflies and will wait to see you again. :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:cat_wings>o
 
Thank you all so much for your kind words..... You gave me more time with him..... I rack my brain, and I wonder too if when I got him if they didn't know.... I mean honestly, who pays $950 for this beautiful creature and decides to give him away... but that was our gain the past almost 3 years and their loss.... And, he was such a gentle soul, I called him my elephant boy, his feet reminded me of elephant feet....lol..... I now have to break to my 6 year old daughter, that her cat passed away....
 
My heart goes out to you not only for losing Max but also having to tell your little girl... a difficult task indeed and particularly so when it happens so suddenly.

I take it Max was a thoroughbred cat. Some breeds are prone to certain hereditary conditions and that makes me even more convinced this was something you had no control over. Seems quite plausible, if not likely, he had a genetic condition that was never divulged to you or detected.

Yes, he was a ragdoll. Beautiful, sweet soul. But I was looking through pictures and he was sicker than even I thought.....:(
 
Oh what a handsome guy! Sometimes we just don't see changes on a day to day basis until we look back. I did the same thing with my first kitty. Remember looking back at pics and suddenly realizing he hadn't looked well for awhile. It happens to all of us but it's mostly because these creatures are so very good at hiding things. Their behaviour often doesn't fit a sick cat because they are so good at hiding it... a trait that serves them well in the wild but not so well in a domesticated setting. Chances are good that if this was a genetic condition, even if you had known, there might not have been anything you could have done to prevent Max's loss.
