I saw a post on Facebook today about Hillary and Maui - posted by Caryl

It is with great sorrow that I'm here to say that Hillary had to say goodbye to her precious Maui The Magnificent this morning. Maui VERY unexpectedly threw a blood clot sometime last night and Hillary found her this morning back legs paralyzed and in excruciating pain.

Please say a prayer for Maui to help her find her way as she goes to the Bridge. And warm comforting thoughts and hugs to Hillary to help her through this very very hard time

Hillary - I am so sorry for your loss. It was so sudden. ((Hugs))

Our Beautiful Maui the Magnificent....you will be missed sweet girl....Fly Free Dearest Maui....

(((Hillary)))) I am so terribly sorry to hear this sad news and I am sending hugs and condolences to you. Words cannot express
how sad I feel for your loss Hill....may your wonderful memories of your girl give you comfort....and healing....

NO!!!! Not Maui!!

Oh Hillary...there are just no words. Tears are flowing over the sudden loss of your sweet baby.

Fly Free sweet Maui, and land softly...there are many at the bridge to welcome you....You were truly magnificent and will get an extra special set of wings wings_cat

I wish there were something I could say, but there's just not.

((((((Hillary))))))

BIG HUGE LOOOOOOONG HUG Hillary...I'm so so sorry it was Maui's time to cross. Oh such amazing wonderful loving life you shared.

Fly free sweet black girl....you'll be missed terribly for a long time...

Fly free Maui the Magnificent....

This is so incredibly sad. we will all miss you Maui. Land softly at the Bridge. Mannie will be there to guide you. Hillary I am so very sorry about Maui. I am sorry that Maui had to feel such pain. She could not have had a better mama. I know she thanks you for being there for her, every day. Hugs to you.

Hillary did make a note on the LL FB post:
I just got home, need time to decompress and will write more later. It happened this morning around 8 am ET and I rushed her to Red Bank where the vet said she threw a something thrombosis something clot, her back legs were paralyzed with some possible feeling and she was crying in pain. Maui talks, but nothing like this, this was pain, real pain.

I just knew in the drive to the vet that I would be coming home without her, I just knew.

The ER vet said that it would take 2-3 days to stabilize her and even then no guarantee (another clot, remaining paralyzed, etc) and said that if she survived this, then it would be several more days to diagnosis the underlying cause.

I knew, just knew that I could not put her through all that and have her be without me. They gave her pain meds and when they brought her to me, she was cold, ears, nose, paws, still crying and not breathing right. I told her how much she is loved and that she is a legend, gave her a snot halo and told her that she would have lots of staff and kitties that she could get to wear her uniforms and do her bidding. And the best part, she would be able to see again and be free from this pain and failing body.

I'll write a proper tribute later on...in the meantime, I did post about how Magnificent she truly is - in honor of Friday the 13 (black cat Friday ) both on my timeline and the community page- you can read her story there and well more later - I've got to take care of Buster and get rid of this headache and stop my eyes from leaking....

It's unthinkable that Maui has flown to the Bridge. My boys will take good care of her, which as we all know is just how Maui would want it!

(((Hillary))) I'm so sorry to hear this about Maui, just devastating and so sudden a loss. I will light Maggie's candle for Maui. My heart and prayers go out to you.

I am so sorry to hear the news. Maui was truly a legend. Saddle thrombosis is so sudden with no warning. Been there. Many hugs to Hilary. :YMHUG:

There are many GAs who will be throwing a huge welcoming party for Maui today. Fly free little one, you no longer need your jet. wings_cat

Oh (((Hillary)))

I am so shocked and sorry to be reading this! My heart to you and deepest sympathies :YMHUG:

Fly free sweet Maui. Land softly wings_cat

((((Hillary)))) I'm so so sorry.

Comfort vines to you, my friend.

I will light a candle for Maui The Magnificent tonight.

I'm sure she is enjoying seeing, and be waited on as is her due, at The Bridge.

I hope she will send you a message soon that she is okay.

Requiem aeternum, Maui.

{{hugs}}

This is the same thing that took out Spitzer - a saddle thrombus blocking the blood supply to the legs. I have never heard a cat in that much pain and I never want to again. The chances of recovery aren't good and the chances of throwing another clot in 10 months are high.

We are so sorry to hear about Maui the Magnificent. So so sorry. Leo will miss all the rides in her furrarri. Many hugs.
Lisa & Leo

I'm so sorry Hillary. What a terrible shock for you. I'll miss hearing about Maui the Magnificent's adventures. I will always remember her with a smile as she searched for the perfect pool boy for her condo at the falls. And BigMac will be waiting at the bridge with the red wagon he borrowed from her and they can travel around together as they enjoy feeling young and playful again. cat_pet_icon ((((Hugs))))

Lighting a ring of candles, in memory of Hillary's beloved Maui.

Oh Maui! Iz so sorry you had to go to the rainbow bridge. So glad we got to take that trip last week down to see Carl and Polly and frolic on the warm beaches in the Carolinas. Your copilot Elsa Lil bit Pit and navigator Wink will sorely miss you. -Wink

I am so sorry Hillary. I'm sorry it was so sudden. But it is wonderful that Maui is now free from the pain of this earth. And now she is playing with all her friends at the Bridge.

Lighting a candle for her tonight...

We are lighting Stu's candle tonight in honor of a magnificent girl. Fly free, dear, brave Maui. There is no pain at the Bridge.

In deepest sympathy,

Ella & Edward, Rusty, and Stu (GA)

I feel like I would be remiss if I didn't post here so I am. You and Maui were the first friends Alex and I had when we came to FDMB in 2009. I always tease you about Maui having been diabetic for 2 minutes and while that may be sorta true she was an inspiration for you and you have truly 'been there' paying it forward helping so many newbies that come for help. You are a genuine and generous person who truly 'feels' for so many kitties wit the dire beasties. And every time you help someone the thank you really belongs to Maui The Magnificent because when she had diabetes you learned and you are the type of person who just naturally shares what you learn.

I am so so very sorry that this happened on so many levels. I don't have to put it into words again because I know you know how I feel for you. If I could make it easier I would but we know that I can't any more than you could for me with Alex and Jackson . I can only be here for you. And hopefully you believe, as I do, that Maui IS in a place where she is pain free and life is beautiful again and she is running and playing with Sydney and Jake and Hopefully A & J (but they STILL won't be pool boys)

Fly Free Maui Girl and land softly. Then on to new adventures!
You will be missed here but the heavens will be so much brighter now.

Lots of hugs & love xoxo

This is just horrible & I am so sorry Hillary.

May Maui find her friend Tinkerbell at the Bridge & may they play happily together as they watch over us and send us Rainbow Kitty Kisses.

((((((((((((Hugs & Love))))))))))))

What a wonderful tribute and thank you for sharing the pictures and the stories, since we came in halfway through the adventure. Many prayers and vines for peace and happiness.

Dear Auntie Hillary - I misses Maui already, and I always keep my uniform pressed and ready to go. I wear it proudly and nekkid when I have to. Love, Leo

So sorry - my heart breaks every time I read of another precious cat leaving their guardians behind. RIP little Maui wings_cat

Thank you everyone. I really appreciate all the outpouring of warmth, love and condolences. It's so hard to put into words what one feels at a time like this. I know many of you have had to say goodbye to your furbabies too.

There never seems to be the right thing to say or do, because honestly there is nothing that can be said or done. It's done, it's over and as my dear friend Caryl put it, all we want is our babies back in our arms and homes. The one thing that we cannot ever have again.

Losing a loved one, whether sudden like Maui or prolonged is not easy. There is no easy, no pretty, no peace. One just needs to learn to live with the void and know deep down that the right decision was made (not for me, but for her). And while my heart is shattered, I will pick up the pieces and carry on.

Remembering Maui's adventures and those of many LL kitties is how I will honor her. In true Maui fashion, I found an old posting that sums of the life and fun of Maui the Magnificent. Now for your reading pleasure, sure to bring a smile, chuckle, maybe even a snortle - an oldie but a goodie.....

Good morning, this is your favorite Roving Reporter Alphabean coming to you live from the deck of Maui’s beautiful condo at the Falls.

I know you must have missed me, however, when Maui left for the Falls, well I wanted to take a vacation, I went there too. Let me tell you, my first days were wonderful. Maui and I lounged around, met the neighbors and had some great feasts. Then, Maui got word that her valet/cabana boy/butler, Spot was not yet ready to take up his post. In addition, Maui put me, your Roving Reporter Alphabean to work filling Spot’s job.

My vacation quickly ended and I have become Maui’s servant for the past month. I finally told her that is enough, I am going back to my real job and Maui kicked me out of her condo. She said, if I do not work, I could not stay.

Therefore, I am now standing outside her condo in the rain, without an umbrella. Maui is watching me from the comfort of her bed and I see her snickering behind her paws.

Uhh, Alphabean. This is the Studio, don’t you have a report to give. We want to hear about Maui and what she’s been up to.

OK, fine Studio. Alright folks. Today, June 12 is Maui’s official one month OTJ!

Maui has been one busy kitty, she’s planted her nip and secret herb garden, changed the ballet – you all remember the ballet she was producing – Dance of the Fancy Felines? Well the ballet is now becoming a musical play. Rehearsals are still in progress and there have been some casting changes, from what I have seen, it looks great.

Maui herself has gained back the 3 pounds she lost, her fur is rich and thick and oh so soft (she won’t let me touch, unless I groom her – again Spot’s job not mine). She still eats like a pig (I am sorry if any of the audience are pigs) but she is a bit of a piggy. She eats her breakfast and then will eat anyone else’s that she sees. Maui hasn’t itched in months. Do you all remember the embarrassment she suffered at the paws of that Spot impostor? Well for those of you who may not remember, Maui had explosive diarrhea and made all kinds of horrible bathroom noises.

I am happy to report that since coming to the Falls, no more explosions from Maui’s butt or noises. She has had an occasional bout of loose poo, it either resolved itself quickly or she pulled some slippery elm from her secret garden and that did the trick.

Maui spends a lot of time lounging on her deck chair enjoying the warm weather and sunshine. She hissed and hit Mr. Luigi a 9-month-old Boxer who dared to attempt to befriend her. Mr. Luigi went away very sad indeed. He watches her from afar and hopes that one day they can be friends.

Maui has her energy back, pep in her step and big bright eyes that are focused and understand everything that is going on around here.

She did tell me, before she kicked me out that, she is deeply saddened by the felines who did not make it to the Falls and instead went to Rainbow Bridge. She knows that they are where they need to be and wanted me to tell the mom and dad beans not to be sad. Instead, she wants them to be happy and celebrate their lives.

ALPHA! ALPHA! This is Maui. I want to know why you are standing on my deck in the rain talking about me. Do you not remember the confidentiality agreement you signed? I called the Feline Patrol and General Noisy and President Pelusa are on their way over here right now to talk to you.

Nevertheless, Maui, I am only telling your fans about how you spent this past month. I did not betray your confidences. OK, maybe just a bit, by bringing up the poopy report, but hey I’m a reporter and that’s what I do – report the news. The good, the bad and the smelly!

Fine, then I want to talk to my fans.

Hello everyone, this is Magnificent, Mahvellous Maui. I want you to know, I feel great! I look great! Moreover, I am great! Enough said. Now, who is ready for a party!

Oh Alpha, while you are standing there, please bring me a niptini and some turkey mole! Oh and make sure the chips are fresh and crisp. Not soggy like last time.

Yes, your Magnificence. Folks this is your Roving Reporter Alphabean still Maui’s servant – Spot hurry it up and take your job back. Now back to you in the studio.
