For those that don't know- my boys, ShoutAnthony and Caleb Luis are 60 pound coonhound/lab droolers...my precious punks.

Well, when I was growing up and my mom brought us to Grammas so she could get "back on her feet" after leaving my abusive bio dad, I stayed in a little spindle bed...27" wide and 7 feet long. It had belonged to my Great Uncle Bill from when he was growing up. It had a foam mattress and is really the only thing that ever was steady in my growing up years.

We lived in so many places that I went to 13 schools by 10th grade, but there was ALWAYS the spindle bed at Gramma's house.

So- when Gramma started downsizing and thinking of what folks might want after she was gone, all I asked for was that old spindle bed. By now the thing is upward of 80 years old and I didn't want to chance any damage to it at the old stinky rentla house so I asked her to hold onto it until I bought my own place.

I finally did that about a year and a half ago, and was pleased as a spring pea to have the Old spindle bed join my family. I placed it in the spare room/office and there it stood for the last year and a half.

I couldn't afford to buy a mattress for it so it wasn't really a bed, and kind of ended up being a place for storage boxes to set. My guests all have said they were afraid to sleep on it for fear of breaking it anyway...Gramma said we shouldn't have over 150 pounds on it and my family- well, they are a little bigger than that, most of them.

Started thinking about it the other day and decided that if I shorten the length of it, I could bring it into my room and make a bed for the boys and then also be able to see and use the old spindle bed- just as I wanted to.

SO today was the day! I took off the old side rails and used some new lumber I had in garage to cut to length ( 5 feet) and fasten the old hardware to, attach inner rails that hold wood supports that hold the board that hold the mattress....and decided the boys 4 comforters they have been sleeping on on the floor, could act as a mattress until finances improve.

Shout Anthony has already walked on it and walked on me while I was laying on it...course Caleb Luis ois more reserved and a bit skittish, so I am sure he'll take some coaxing....ubt he generally does whatever Shout will do, so once Shout gets on it for bed, Caleb will likely follow.

I am just so PLEASED to see the old spindle bed in use...and it kinds of reminds me of my childhood and the consistency of Grammas house....and really kind of makes my place feel more like home, too.

just thought I'd share that with y'all!

Cool! Need a picture of the boys on their new bed (when Caleb finally gets up his nerve).

How is PK doing? An updated spreadsheet would be nice....hint, hint, nag, nag. :)

I love pictures!! and can't wait to see them! Great story M, thanks for sharing!

(off to update Molly's ss before Pamela yells at me too! Actually i might need some advice - she's all over the place these days).

Yeah, I was thinking to take a photo when they are both on it and fast asleep in boy dog land.... ;-)

ah...spread sheet? What's that? um, nag all you want, my dear...one of these days I will update.

You know- actually, I was wondering if I can take the color coding off my SS?

Yeah, I want pictures... but I am right there with you on making that piece of your childhood at home in your adulthood (is that a word? It should be).

And why would you want to remove the colors? You would not be able to tell what the heck was going on. Whatever you do to edit it - SAVE A COPY FIRST!!!!!!
