Hello everyone,
I know all of you have been sending vines Riley's way, so I thought I'd give you a quick update. I have been communicating with Marje on a regular basis because I was so worried about Riley's condition. He was so sick, as you know, I didn't think he would make it through the night. That was February 12, the day before my husband's birthday, and I thought what a horrible day it would be if we woke up and Riley was gone. Well he managed to make it through and on Monday I did as I was advised and picked up some cerenia and appetite stimulant from the vet. I gave Riley a pill and within an hour he looked better. I was on a schedule to get everything in him, as if I was in a race to stop the damage to Riley's kidneys. He was getting a full pill of cerenia, 30 minutes later 1/8 teaspoon of potassium in baby food, a half of a Zobaline, an hour later some wet cat food with phosphorus binder and an hour after that .75 ml of Nutrived. By the time I left for work he was starting to look sick again. I would repeat the same routine when I got home minus the cerenia. Again, after all was injected into my poor boy, he would be lethargic and sick with flat ears. Then Marje sent me some information about Nutrived having propylene glycol in it and also suggested that the iron could be making Riley sick. I talked to my vet and she suggested that I stop giving Riley the Nutrived. In the meantime it was suggested that because Riley was so ill I might want to schedule an ultrasound to look at his organs for possible cancer. So I do have one set up for Monday....however.
After one full day without the Nutrived, Riley is a different cat. He has been up all day, he's been outside, walking up on his toes, eating all of his food with the phosphorus binder in it, has eaten the baby food with the potassium in it, taken a half Zobaline, and I haven't given him a cerenia at all. His ears are perked up and his energy level is better than I've seen it in months. It is an unbelievable turnaround. He is bright eyed, alert, interested in everything. What do you make of it? If he continues to behave this way, I am thinking about canceling his ultrasound and having a blood panel done in a couple of weeks to see where I need to make adjustments in his medicines. Advice please and thanks to everyone again!
