Maggie's bounce-o-rama pt 2

PMPS was high as I expected... but really, not that high as far as Maggie numbers go. I gave her 2.75 again and this time I'll be checking her overnight. Have a feeling today was just a fluke, but we'll see what tomorrow brings.

Wow, something definitely changed in the last 48 hours. What is it you guys say -- Mr P is visiting? :)

I just tested her at +4 and she's plummeted to 85. I gave her some Nature's Valley kibble. I guess I should have done a lower dose tonight, that 505 though just seemed like normal numbers for her so I figured it was ok to give the dose we've been doing. Maybe it was artificially inflated by a recent meal.

Will continue to monitor until she starts trending up. Never a dull moment here!

Life on the edge, Kelly!

Looks like time to lower the dose a little! Good news. She may be high today because of the dry and the bounce, but I'd still lower it just a bit. Next time she starts to drop, first give regular food and see if she flattens out. If not, try the gravy off higher carb - just a spoonful.

I tested her at +8, she was 444. Not sure if that was a bounce, or a result of me overcorrecting with the food, or both. I lowered to 2.5 this morning. I think we will be home most of the day tomorrow so should be able to get some good data.

Ok, she's having a blue morning again! But this time I don't have to run off for work. I am actually already an hour late to test her so this is a +13 number.

As I understand it I am supposed to just wait and not feed her... how long should I wait? She is already staring longingly at the spot where I usually put her food, and she's going to be downright pissed when we feed the other cats and shut her out of the room! :)

Yes, you can stall for 20 minutes, without food, just to make sure it is rising. But you have enough data and are confident enough testing, that you can shoot a 187 - as long as it is rising - just a little less. 2.25? It is frustrating to have to increase/decrease to keep up with her, but whatever works.

Oh really, that much even on a reading like this? (Also this is an Alphatrak number) I was thinking it would be more like 1.5u. I guess it's based on the idea that she will be rising by the time it kicks in?

I was just looking back and I actually gave her shot a little early last night because we got home early. So, we are just at +14 now.

Don't do anything you are uncomfortable doing. My thinking was that it was close to 200 and you'd be around. and I hate for you to lose momentum. But it is always your choice, and I could definitely be wrong. There is always the "you can always shoot more next time, but you can never get the insulin out of the cat once shot" too.

Go with your gut.

Thanks Sue. I certainly wasn't doubting you, you know a million times more about how these things usually play out than I do :) Is it accurate that a cat, at any given time, has a sort of threshold of a dose that will affect their BG at all? Or will even a very small dose always do something for any cat? What I am asking is, if I gave her something like 1 or 1.5u, is there a chance that it just does nothing because that's too low a dose for her right now?

I'm honestly curious to see what happens with no shot, but I guess that is a bad idea because once they start getting high, if you shoot then you're still leaving them in high numbers for a few hours until it kicks in (plus you screw up your schedule).

Ok, after 20ish minutes she is at 214 so I'm giving her food now and will give a shot shortly. I'm thinking 2u with close monitoring.

I get your confusion, Kelly. I'm always guessing what I should do with Teasel - sometimes correctly, sometimes not. As Sue is always saying, it's more data.
