We are trying to help her on Facebook as well. Admin Karen will stay there to see if Madison will update. She need to get her cat to an ER vet. This could be a hypo situation (and she gave MORE insulin), a stroke or a few other health issues. The ER is the best place for her.

Thankyou so much. I wasn’t sure how to help. Xxx

background info- thursday i came home to a collapsed kitty and had him rushed to the ER. turns out his BG skyrocketed. through bloodwork, Giz was diagnosed with GI lymphoma.

friday morning he returned from hospital and we went straight to vet. the vet confirmed the gi lymphoma diagnosis via ultrasound. she explained to me that any treatment for the cancer would effect his diabetes in a terrible way. the medicine she mentioned was prednisone but she never mentioned chemotherapy? she then explained to me that he could receive supportive care over the weekend at the ER and on monday i can make a decision to have him put down or not. when i picked him up from vet to transfer to hospital, his BG had went down tremendously.

before heading to hospital friday i brought him home for just a few minutes. he seemed to have so much life back, he was walking around, meowing, purring and even jumped up on my kitchen table! the vet said he refused to eat, but i offered him canned chicken and he went to town! he finished a whole can and was wanting more! he even drank water for me!

this brought my spirits about gizmo back up! we went to er because i knew he needed more fluids for his dehydration and more care to stabilize his BG. since last night they’ve seen it ping pong and it’s not went down to normal levels just yet. i’m thinking that is due to stress from traveling, being in a new place, maybe there are other animals near him and he’s scared, etc. but i just called 30 minutes ago for a check up and his BG is in the 400s- it was in the 600s earlier today. and they said he finally ate some more canned chicken! so i’m hoping he’s finally getting adjusted to being there and stress is coming down. and i’m really hoping he will be stable by monday so he can come home to spend the remainder of his life with us before the cancer takes him.

i want to get him the freestyle libre thing if he can return home so that he will be closely monitored on his BG and to hopefully avoid another episode like this. i’m asking if you have any advice for the GI lymphoma treatment? is there anything that can be done? should we be asking about chemotherapy??

So we have him at the ER over night and his BG is staying around upper 400s, he has been eating good, using the bathroom, and getting hydrated. he has also been diagnosed with Gi lymphoma on top of this. They’re saying the steroid isn’t an option because of his diabetes. When he was home for a few yesterday he was eating, walking around, and purring. I feel like there is help for him, the vet hasn’t mentioned anything about chemotherapy treatments. But he is putting weight back on

he has also been diagnosed with Gi lymphoma on top of this.

As we've mentioned in the feline diabetes group, IBD and lymphoma often have the same symptoms and without a biopsy, which is an invasive procedure that requires anesthesia, there's no way to know for sure which one you're dealing with and even then, the treatment is often the same....some type of steroid. With IBD we usually suggest trying a steroid called Budesonide because it doesn't usually cause the problems with blood glucose like prednisilone can, but if pred is the only thing that works, you just adjust the insulin around it.

Hopefully you can get more information on what kind of diagnostics they did and what they found. If it was just thickened intestinal track (or a feeling of "ropey" intestines, you could try some novel protein foods (a novel protein is one the cat has never eaten before like rabbit, lamb, alligator, bison, kangaroo, muskrat and beaver) as well as the Budesonide to see if it helps before going straight to Prenisilone.

Hopefully you can get more answers when you can talk with the doctors.
