background info- thursday i came home to a collapsed kitty and had him rushed to the ER. turns out his BG skyrocketed. through bloodwork, Giz was diagnosed with GI lymphoma.
friday morning he returned from hospital and we went straight to vet. the vet confirmed the gi lymphoma diagnosis via ultrasound. she explained to me that any treatment for the cancer would effect his diabetes in a terrible way. the medicine she mentioned was prednisone but she never mentioned chemotherapy? she then explained to me that he could receive supportive care over the weekend at the ER and on monday i can make a decision to have him put down or not. when i picked him up from vet to transfer to hospital, his BG had went down tremendously.
before heading to hospital friday i brought him home for just a few minutes. he seemed to have so much life back, he was walking around, meowing, purring and even jumped up on my kitchen table! the vet said he refused to eat, but i offered him canned chicken and he went to town! he finished a whole can and was wanting more! he even drank water for me!
this brought my spirits about gizmo back up! we went to er because i knew he needed more fluids for his dehydration and more care to stabilize his BG. since last night they’ve seen it ping pong and it’s not went down to normal levels just yet. i’m thinking that is due to stress from traveling, being in a new place, maybe there are other animals near him and he’s scared, etc. but i just called 30 minutes ago for a check up and his BG is in the 400s- it was in the 600s earlier today. and they said he finally ate some more canned chicken! so i’m hoping he’s finally getting adjusted to being there and stress is coming down. and i’m really hoping he will be stable by monday so he can come home to spend the remainder of his life with us before the cancer takes him.
i want to get him the freestyle libre thing if he can return home so that he will be closely monitored on his BG and to hopefully avoid another episode like this. i’m asking if you have any advice for the GI lymphoma treatment? is there anything that can be done? should we be asking about chemotherapy??
