This is making no sense. Yesterday Lucy's numbers were high in the afternoon, I had to give her evening shot an hour early, as I had to be out of the house. Checked at +5 she was coming down at 272. Now this morning she is 109. Of course I'm not giving her her morning dose. Should I wait till evening? She is feeling fine and eating and purring.

Do some cats always stay all over the place like this? Does a pattern usually develop? Or is there no usual?

Thank you everyone.

Hi guys .. I'm not familiar with lucy's story, or the type of insulin you are using. I don't want to offer advice, as it might be wrong .. but I do know this mornings number is nice! Hopefully others will be along soon to help you out!

Now we are three hours past her am shot time, which I skipped as she was 109, and it is up to 303. Should I shoot now or wait till evening scheduled time? She did eat three hours ago.

You can shoot now, IF it won't completely mess up your schedule 12 hours from now. I would reduce the dose however. Was last night's dose .5? Are you using U100 needles? If so, I would try for a .2.

The lowering numbers probably mean her pancreas is kicking in. This is a good thing!

You might try posting here and on PZI when you need dosing help. Likely More eyes.

Last night's dose was 0.6 and I am using U100 needles. Her dose was one hour early last night. I'm going to have to wait until tonight's dose.

I love to hear that you think the lowering numbers might mean her pancreas is kicking in, but there are so many high ones. It's all crazy.

How much introduction do I need to make on the PZI board? I've never posted there.

Also, how can I make adjustments in that spreadsheet to show that her times move around between doses? Should I post separately about that question? Is there a link to spreadsheet use? I don't want to screw up the data that I have managed to get in there.

Was your 109 12 hours after the last shot or 13- since you shot early last night? If it was 12 or 13 hours later, then yes, it suggests either the dose is a little high and/or some pancreatic action. I think waiting until tonight is fine. But I would post here and on PZI and ask for advice on the dose amount.

I would think a dose reduction is probably a good idea. Just remember, tonight will probably be a high number because she will have been 24 hours since the last shot. But you are shooting based on the previous cycle, which suggested the dose was too high when you got an unshootable amps.

The reason she went up to 303 is because, at that point, she had used up all the insulin and was a couple hours without any. When the pancreas starts to "wake up", it may help out for a cycle with a lower amps and then it peters out. It doesn't seem to be an matter of the pancreas starting to help and then continually being there. (I know there is a scientific explanation for this process. Maybe someone else will help with that.) The PZI group calls the pancreas a "visitor" and they all try to make him welcome.

Here is the PZI forum: http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/viewforum.php?f=24 Just post there like you do here with a short intro. It is a much smaller forum than Health so you may have to post and then come back later for an answer. But everyone there uses or has used your insulin, so they can give you good info based on their experiences. If you ever have an emergency, post here as you will attract more eyes.

I know this is overwhelming. One of the reasons is that you are lucky enough to have a kitty that is responding very well to the insulin. (Some people give the same dose for days and get the same numbers and then increase and the cycle continues.) You have had to adjust daily to a different dose and carefully watch the numbers. The good news is that Lucy is going down in doses and in numbers. Challenging, but very encouraging.

I did post on the PZI forum. I'm going to go ahead with 0.5 tonight. I haven't had access to my computer or my kitty all day!
