Many of you know Linda and her Bear Man (GA). After Bear Man crossed the Bridge, his littermate, Teddy crossed only to be followed by Miss Emily. Pinkerton has been with LInda for quite some time, as well. Linda posted the following on Facebook today:
Vines are needed for my study buddy, Pinkerton. Some time early this morning after we got up, he somehow injured himself. I was getting ready for school when I heard him wailing in his little bed. It soon became clear that he could not walk. He only has one hind leg, and was unable to bear weight on it. I took him to an ER, where an X-ray revealed that the head of his femur was shattered. He has been taken to a referral clinic and seen by an orthopedic surgeon, who feels that the fracture can be repaired, but that because of his situation (only one leg, moderate arthritis in his hip), he is at high risk of complications from the surgery and his recovery may be difficult. I hope to speak to the surgeon today (just finished speaking with an ER vet), and surgery might be performed as early as tonight or tomorrow. Please send healing thoughts - he is going to need them.
She updated her post this afternoon:
Afternoon update on Pinkerton: they will do the surgery on Tuesday morning. They will take biopsies of the bone to see if there is anything there that caused the bone to splinter with no large force, but they will take a week to come back. They will go ahead and stabilize the break with plates and pins, in the hope that the bone can heal normally. He is not a happy camper at the vet, so they hope to send him home Wednesday. He will be on an e-collar for two weeks, and crate restriction for two months. Thanks so much to everyone for the vines and prayers. This morning it looked like I was going to lose him, so things have brightened up since then.
Please send Pinkerton whatever support you can. Linda could probably use some support (and chocolate) too.
