Libre Installation Failure -Thoughts?

Shelly’s last Libre lasted 11 days, and we considered this a win. We used the directions compiled by @Tim & Pookey and the process went very smoothly.

Today we tried installing another Libre and it didn’t take ()

When we pulled up to release, it didn’t seem attached properly, but we were hopeful. Sure enough, after the 60 minutes, instead of providing a reading we got a sensor error.

Luckily this was a replacement we got from Abbott. We are about to pick up a new one from Costco, but I am wondering if you have experienced a Libre ‘not taking’ for lack of a better word, or heard of it?

We did a little research and think we didn’t let the skin glue dry long enough.

We obviously did something wrong and now we’re feeling paranoid about messing up again

When you say you used “skin glue” I’m hoping you use skin tac and not actual glue.
Skin tac is actually a moisture barrier, it is not glue. I only let it dry about a minute.
If in fact, you used glue, that can cause the Libre to shut down and stop working.

Please don’t use any kind of glue when applying the Libre as a can damage their skin and it also causes the Libre to fail.

When you say the Libre would not release, what I find to be the most helpful is to have either a toothpick or a nail file or something very flat and thin to hold down the paper disc with the Libre sensor on it underneath the cap.

Before I pull up on the cap, I gently put the toothpick underneath the cap and hold down on that little paper disc and then I carefully release the disc at the same time.
That keeps the disc held steady to the skin, and the cap comes off quite easily. It just takes a little practice.
I also put a Tegaderm on top of the Libre and press it to her skin, and then I take the toothpick and I tear a little hole in that center of the tegaderm over the sensor so that it can breathe.
Those are my best tips. I hope they help with your next sensor.

Thank you so much! Yes! We are using a skin tac brand called Skin Glu, not actual glue. That makes sense that it acts a moisture barrier. Huge Ah ha moment for me! I really appreciate the tips. We were able to successfully get another Libre on Shelly tonight

Very glad it worked!! Do you keep it covered so she can’t mess with it or pull it off (a tee shirt or a wrap?)
