i don't often ask for advise but please...don't know exactly what to do here.
tom threw up his whole breakfast right in his breakfast bowl while eatting then threw up the rest on kitchen floor, carpet big mess
i let him out (he asked) he's chewing on grass which is good but he's got a fat U on board........i leave for work in less than an hour and cannot get out of it...appointments.
should i leave out some hard kibble, regular...i'm afraid of that fattie working on an empty tummmy

Hopefully, you will bring him back inside and keep him in while you are gone. I would also leave some canned food down for him. If in doubt, you could put down some crunchies knowing full well he might sky rocket up. Better high though than low.

hope i just did give him exactly 5 crunchies.
it sucks that i hate to leave food out knowing he might upchuck it on the carpet again...oh well...i never fully get those stains out. i will leave him food out. he ate his crunchies. he goes out and in all day hope,,,,he's good about staying in yard and always comes when called.

Lori, if there is any risk at all of a potential hypo happening, I would certainly make sure he is kept in. Sometimes we need the crunchies ;-)

well i could lock him in...he wants to eat..i'm giving him small amounts at a time (he's a scarfer) so he might be able to hold it down..
never saw a cat throw up mid eatting. just shows how my tom can be nauseaus, on the verge of throwing up------and keep on eatting! :o LITERALLY he was eatting and while eatting threw up in bowl :o

ok, i'm leaving. won't be home till 4ish. i wish i could ask the whole board to keep an eye on him while i'm gone. he's had 5 crunchies and 1/2 can FF. i would have given more but thought the more he has the more likely he'll throw up? might throw up anyway.
i can't just leave food down....he'll eat it immediatly...
oye vey. what to do????
i might be able to run home between my noon and 1 apt. as my noon is just a quick guy cut. i'm only less than a mile away. i'll try to get home.
i'm the only one in the salon today and not really supposed to leave.
but tomtom is more important than the silly 'rules'. i'm not well known for following rules anyway

Lori - for situations like this, you may want to freeze canned food and this way you can put out the frozen stuff. The time it takes to thaw, will (should) slow Tom down from scarfing.

I know you are probably gone by now, but maybe a neighbor can check on him for you. And if he is down and out...then transport him to ER, give Karo ...? I know they wouldn't be able to test, but they could describe his reaction...?

I did that with Atlas onetime, called the neighbor with the key and she checked on him several times and put out extra food as I instructed based on his behavior.

As others say...better high today, than low and no tomorrow.

Paws crossed everything is OK

ran home for a quick check...did'nt test but he was locked in and i find no vomit anywhere and he's now eatting the 2nd half of his breakfast...don't forget he had those 5 crunchies. so i think he's ok. leaving his door open so he can come and go.
i don't think tom would consider eatting thawed canned food. i could try but he does'nt even like leftovers.. he's a scarfer but a little picky. has to be a fresh can..has to be what he likes...altho he is eatting leftovers right now. must be hungry.
thanks all
home at 4

Does he throw up often? Maybe he has some kidney issues and just needs pepcid a/c. That always did wonders for Fred and in the last months of his life I upped his dose and I don't think he threw up in 3 months.

marticia i would not say he throws up often...
i have a hunch.
his last meal of the day, bedtime snack we call it, is 1.5 ounces of raw rabbit (yum, his favorite meal of the day) and that night he ate but when i was closing the lights and leaving for bed i noticed two small chunks left. strange, he usually licks the bowl clean.
now, if he left those for hours and hours before eatting them they could spoil.
you are only supposed to leave the raw out for like less than an hour then throw it out.
tom sleep with me and i did'nt notice him get up and go eat again so it's possible he ate those in the morning hours and thus it was my fault. :YMSIGH: :YMSIGH: :YMSIGH:
in that case i'm lucky i did'nt kill my cat with spoiled raw food.
it always seems tom and i live dangerously....

yes celi, we survived it! he ate a couple of crunchie 'just in case' and managed to get down breakfast by noon. all is well again. :-D
